Over the past year, Humber College’s Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Committee (the Committee) spearheaded the revision of the Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures for students. A separate set of procedures were developed strictly for employees.

The Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy was mandated by the Ontario government. The requirements that were set out were quite prescriptive in nature for colleges and universities in how to prevent and respond to all forms of sexual violence. After extensive consultation with stakeholders throughout Humber College and the University of Guelph- Humber, the policy and procedures were approved by the Board of Governors in early December, 2016.

Humber College is pleased to announce the official launch of the Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures which can be accessed at: humber.ca/policies/sexual-assault-and-sexual-violence-policy.

The Committee has now started the process of developing education and training on the policy and procedures. The training modules will be completed by March 2017. All employees are required to complete the training. For further information on Humber’s Sexual Assault & Sexual Violence Policy, please contact Meg Houghton, Director, Student Access, Wellness and Development – meg.houghton@humber.ca or Nancy Simms, Director, Human Rights, Equity and Diversity – nancy.simms@humber.ca.

Hi everyone,

As you know, Support Staff Appreciation Week (SSAW) will be here soon! The theme for this year is “WE ARE SSAW Celebrating Humber’s 50 Golden Years.”

This year marks SSAW’s 29th anniversary, celebrating the contributions you make to the college with a week of professional development opportunities. As you know, this year also marks Humber’s 50th Anniversary. We are therefore very proud to be celebrating Humber’s amazing story.

The week of February 21 – 24, 2017 will be filled with a wide variety of learning opportunities to support our employees’ ongoing success. Please see the SSAW 2017 Calendar for more information.

We hope you take the time for some learning experiences; spend some time having some fun; and spend a bit of time reminiscing. Let’s take a look back the 1960’s. In particular, let’s take a look back at 1967 as this was the year Humber opened its doors.

Throughout the week, we will offer some interesting professional development opportunities and share some memories of back in the day.

Enjoy everyone!

Following a variety of great sessions and events, we will hold our celebratory luncheon in the gymnasium with keynote Slap Happy!

For over 15 years, Slap Happy has been performing award-winning improvised comedy across North America and Europe. During that time they've won three Canadian Comedy Awards as best improv troupe, and individually have taken home several more as writers, directors and performers.

SSAW 2017 will be an exciting and fun week and we look forward to your participation!

Regards,
Julie Pellegrini, HR Services, Committee Chair
