I am writing to share the news with you that Jerry Chomyn will be retiring as Program Head of Media Studies at the University of Guelph-Humber as of August 31, 2018.

After leading a successful career in broadcast journalism Jerry ventured into the world of postsecondary education, where he has spent more than three decades leading innovative, award-winning media programs.

Jerry was an influential figure in the Radio Broadcasting program at Humber College where he served as Director of Broadcast Media. He was successful in securing the first FM radio license for a college in Toronto, received Humber’s Innovator of the Year Award, and was inducted into the Radio Humber Hall of Fame.

For the past eight years Jerry has served as head of the Media Studies program at the University of Guelph-Humber. During this time he has redeveloped the program to reflect a multi-disciplined, multi-platform approach to the theoretical and practical sides of media studies curriculum. Jerry has forged international partnerships with universities in Argentina, China, Germany, and Austria, and media students have won more than 200 international content creation awards competing against top North American universities.

I invite you to join us for a celebration of Jerry’s career as a broadcast journalist and lifelong educator, which will take place on Tuesday, October 30 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Please mark your calendars as further event details to follow.

With thanks,

Dr. John Walsh

Humber College – Chartwells Catering will stop serving bottled water at all catering events at North and Lakeshore campuses, effective September 4, 2018. Aligning with Humber’s commitment to sustainability on campus, we aim to raise awareness about the benefits of tap water and to decrease campus bottled water consumption. By limiting our use of bottled water, we will help reduce our collective carbon footprint and promote social and environmental responsibility. With this new standard in place, we will offer water dispensers at all of our catering events that feature traditional and infused water! Thank you for trusting us to be your source for top-quality catering at Humber College and we look forward to working together

I would like to invite the entire Humber community to join me in congratulating Steve Bellamy on his recent appointment as Chief Executive Officer for the Confederation Centre of the Arts, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Sadly, in order for Steve to take on this exciting opportunity, it also means that he will be leaving Humber at the end of August. Steve has been a dedicated member of the Humber family for more than 11 years, and in that time he has had a profound impact as a leader within the School of Creative and Performing Arts, and across Humber in many ways and on many levels. We are very sad to see Steve leave Humber, but are thrilled for him as he embarks on this new adventure.

Steve’s last day at Humber will be August 31, at which time Dr. Andrew Scott will take on the role of Acting Dean. I want to take this opportunity to thank Andy for agreeing to take on this role during the transition phase as we work to engage the search process for the next Dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts in the Fall.

Steve, I have truly enjoyed working with you over the last few years and will greatly miss having you as part of the Academic Leadership team. I wish you great success and enjoyment as you take this exciting role.

Sincerely,

Laurie Rancourt
Senior VP Academic
