Poppy Beading Workshop at North and Lakeshore Campus - Contact Lorralene.Whiteye@humber.ca to register!

In preparation for Remembrance Day on Monday, November 11 and Indigenous Veterans Day on Friday, November 8, we are hosting a Poppy Beading Workshop at each campus.

This workshop is available for students, staff and alumni with a limit of 20 individuals per session, with the main instruction happening on the October 29 and November 5. If you do not finish your poppy or would like additional instruction drop in hours are also available on October 30 and November 6.

Please RSVP by emailing indigenous@humber.ca or lorralene.whiteye@humber.ca.

Why are we hosting this?

National Aboriginal Veterans Day began in Winnipeg in 1994 when Indigenous veterans were not recognized in Remembrance Day activities, and is now celebrated in many communities across Canada. More than 12,000 Indigenous people are estimated to have volunteered in all three wars, including 7,000 First Nations members, and approximately 300 died during these conflicts.

We Support a Living Income, Fair Trade Campus Week 2019

Fair Trade Campus Week is taking place from Monday, October 28 to Friday, November 1. To recognize and celebrate Humber's status as a Fair Trade Campus, the Office of Sustainability is running multiple events throughout the week.

Fair Trade is a movement and a network of non-profit organizations that endeavors to improve the livelihoods of agricultural producers in developing countries by ensuring that producers receive a fair price for their products. This year, we are talking about living wage.

Small-scale farmers and workers need to earn enough income for a decent standard of living, so they can do the things we do like take their kids to school, eat healthy meals, afford decent housing and save for retirement.

Check out this video to learn more about Fairtrade and the attached calendar for a full list of events.

Often times TESL trained teachers go overseas and find themselves in front of a classroom of young children with no experience of how to teach them.

This four-hour workshop on teaching young children in the ESL/EFL classroom will provide participants with practical strategies that can be used in an English language classroom full of young learners whether in Canada or overseas.

Participants will learn classroom management strategies and reward systems and how to create a supportive learning environment and activities that can be used with young learners. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn how the activities and materials used in adult learning language classes can be adapted for young children.
