The Humber Staff Wellness Series is aimed at promoting virtual safe spaces for Humber staff to focus on various aspects of health and wellness.

About this event

The Principal's Office at Humber Lakeshore Campus, in partnership with the Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness Team, is excited to launch the Principal's Office Employee Wellness Series for all Humber staff. This series will occur once a month throughout the year, with the first interactive session being Mindfulness and Meditation led by Humber Faculty of Social and Community Services professor, Tina Lackner.

Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. This facilitator led session will help your thoughts tune into what we're sensing in the present moment.

We look forward to having you there and stay tuned for other events throughout the year.

Workshop structure

The session will begin at 12:10 p.m. with a short introduction/presentation as to what mindfulness and meditation are and the benefits of it followed by a 30-minute meditation/mindfulness practice session.

IGNITE has partnered with Humber Advancement and Alumni to provide students with Learning Essentials Support, a new financial support service designed to help cover the cost of program learning essential items, from $50 up to a maximum of $500 per academic year.

Examples of learning essential items that we support include, but are not limited to:

  • Equipment (uniforms, tool kits, cosmetic kits, etc.)
  • Software (MyITLab access, etc.)
  • Training & Professional Memberships (Suicide Prevention Training, Soundscan membership, etc.)
  • Experiential (final projects, field trips, etc.)

Over the last few months, Humber has adapted and changed to support new ways of teaching & learning, service delivery and collaboration. Several initiatives in Humber’s Digital Campus Plan have been accelerated to support our community through this journey.

As we begin the Fall semester, we are hosting a Digital Campus Town Hall to provide you with an overview of the digital services and supports available for our students. This session will include representatives from the Academic Division, Student Success & Engagement, Open Learning Centre and Information Technology Services.

You don't want to miss our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Sarah Eaton tomorrow on Friday, August 28 at 10 a.m.. 

Our keynote address by Dr. Sarah Eaton will discuss how to uphold and enact integrity in a sustainable way. She will share strategies with faculty on how they can speak with students about integrity through a strengths-based lens that focuses on positive and productive ways to live and learn, how faculty can integrate academic integrity into their teaching, and an integrated approach to teaching and learning that combines academic ethics with an ethic of care. You and your students are on this journey together!

Dr. Sarah Eaton is the Educational Leader in Residence for Academic Integrity and Associate Professor at the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary. She specializes in Educational Leadership, Policy and Governance, with a research focus on academic integrity including plagiarism, contract cheating, and academic misconduct policy.
