You will learn how to view your own experience and contributions in a way that will allow you to build an accomplishment-based resumé, not just a list of your employment experience.

Mastering the Arts of the Interview

Are you a mid-career faculty member interested in storytelling, documentation, and/or critical reflection? Do you like to engage in discussion and talk shop with other educators? Consider joining like-minded individuals for an out-loud reading of a chapter from Linda Shadiow's book What Our Stories Teach Us and a discussion about the patterns that shape our teaching and our beliefs. What makes you who you are? What are our stories teaching us?

Come and explore best practices for choosing content and building a portfolio that truly reflects who you are as an educator. In Part One you will discuss what to include and discover a process for choosing the best artefacts for inclusion. In Part Two you will use a template and familiarize yourself with a free, easy to use tool that can be fully customized to meet your vision.

Learning and Development Workshop Grammar and Writing Techniques

You learned the rules of grammar in school, but now you'd like to refresh and refine your grammar usage for your professional life. You need to state your ideas clearly and concisely in written communications and present yourself in a professional manner. In this course, you will review the rules of grammar, identify common grammar errors, and refine your business writing style. Improving your grammar will help you deliver polished and professional written communications.

Course Objectives:

  • Examine nouns, pronouns, and verbs, adjectives and adverbs
  • Identify prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections
  • Recognize important grammar rules and common grammatical errors
  • Learn effective methods of rewriting sentences so that they are clear and complete
  • Identify methods for improving word choices and building effective sentences

He’s sported a denim vest on Seinfeld, fended off advances from Eric Forman’s sister on That ‘70s Show, and made a lot of empty promises on Kids in the Hall. Now Kevin McDonald is bringing his comedic talents to Humber College’s Comedy: Writing and Performance program. He’ll be the guest host of New Faces ’18the program’s annual capstone production, which showcases the top graduates to agents, directors, and other invited industry guests.

Join Humber Arboretum staff for a free workshop on creating a garden with nature in mind. Learn how to choose plants and create structures that will attract and support birds, bees, and other wildlife.

This event is part of the Humber Arboretum's programming for the Toronto Bird Celebration and Toronto Ravine Days.

Arrive early to enjoy acoustic music near the entrance to the Arboretum (weather-permitting). Or arrive even earlier and part in a free guided bird walk.
