Outcomes based learning ensures consistency, transparency, and rigor in the learning process. Learning outcomes act as a guide for educators and learners and indicate what the learners will know and do by the end of a specified course or program. They are meant to align teaching materials and assessments. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of outcomes based learning and practice aligning curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners. Please bring a course outline from a course you teach to apply the principles.

From campuses, to workplaces, to our homes, there is an unprecedented dialogue in North America about sexual violence. It’s time to explore how and what we  have been taught about relationships, sex and justice. How do we flirt, handle rejection, or say yes to ourselves? What do we do when we have a crush, learn a friend has caused harm, or things get weird in a relationship and maybe feel unsafe? Drawing from two decades of experience in addressing sexual violence as an educator, counsellor and policy advisor, Farrah Khan shares tangible ways to prevent and address harm. Join her to envision possibilities for cultivating gender justice in our communities and institutions.

Academic Services

Academic Services invites you to attend the Winter 2018 Feature Lecture event, featuring Dr. Lisa Boucher Trends in Gender Issues Instructor at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Violence against women in Canada has been recognized, at both the national and international levels, as a serious and ongoing impediment to gender equality (Statistics Canada, 2015). There is a pressing need to strengthen community and government interventions to successfully challenge and, ultimately eliminate, violence against women. However, while state resources for anti-violence initiatives in the province of Ontario have generally expanded over the last twenty-five years, the funding climate has changed significantly. This has influenced the types of anti-violence work possible.

Please join us on Friday, February 16th, 2018 for Dr. Boucher's lecture: “Violence against Women: Exploring Connections between Community and Policy Responses”. In her presentation, she will provide insight into how individuals can better understand the social and political conditions necessary to effectively intervene to end violence against women.

A light lunch will be served.

Registration is very limited! Please RSVP to academicservices@guelphhumber.ca, by Thursday, February 8, 2018 and state any dietary restrictions.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Adding video and audio content to Blackboard has never been easier. Create a repository of YouTube videos or create your own podcasts or short video clips and directly load or embed this content into the Learn environment. It might seem like a daunting task, creating, editing and uploading your own videos, but the job does not have to be a difficult one and in most cases can be done rather quickly. Participants will get tips on how to efficiently edit their footage and how to upload their finished product. Faculty will also be coached on how videos can be used in their Blackboard site and how these videos can be used as podcasts for their students, clients and colleagues.

Note: It is encouraged, although not necessary, that participants bring a laptop with a webcam or a portable webcam to this session.
