Building upon lessons learned in Part 1, this class continues to explore additional techniques for incorporating hands-on educational experiences using LEGO in any setting.  This workshop will scaffold new skills on top of those learned in Part 1, and dive deeper on how to integrate the methodology into your workplace or classroom.

Are you a teacher who believes in student-centered learning? In this workshop, we will explore coaching and how incorporating coaching methods in your mentoring and/or teaching can help create and support transformative, deep growth and learning, and positive results. It will also identify areas to incorporate coaching conversations into your next mentoring session, and tactics and tips to get started with coaching in the classroom.

PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the concept of Implicit Bias, as well as other forms of bias such as affinity, confirmation, benevolent, and intersectional bias;
  • Consider practical examples of circumstances in which biases can manifest in our interactions with others;
  • Understand the impact of bias on students and staff; and
  • Provide best practices and tools that can assist in addressing bias and seeking to minimize its impact on day-to-day decisions in the workplace and classroom.

Cory joined Rubin Thomlinson LLP in 2011 where his varied experiences allow him to effectively conduct workplace investigations that meet the unique needs of any business environment. He also works with organizations to create effective policies and procedures and provide training to staff on topics such as human rights and harassment, respect at work, conducting effective workplace investigations and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Lunch and Learns at the Humber Arboretum’s Centre for Urban Ecology offer free introductions to topics related to gardening, ecology, and sustainability. Bring your lunch and enjoy a casual learning environment overlooking the Arboretum grounds.
