In a garden, a cluster of small pink flowers dangle down from a tall green stem. More of the same flowers are in the background.

Join the Etobicoke Master Gardeners and the Humber Arboretum for a free online workshop about native plants.

Native plants are those plants which occur naturally in an area, having evolved locally alongside each other and with the native wildlife. They are a fundamental part of local ecology, and without them many other species cannot survive. Learn about the many benefits both to gardeners and the environment, and about native plant choices for your garden.

This virtual event is part of the Eco-Garden Community Workshop series hosted by the Etobicoke Master Gardeners and Humber Arboretum throughout the year.

When: Saturday, April 15 from 10 a.m. to noon

Where: Online, via Zoom

How: This event is free and open to all. Register through Eventbrite to receive the link.

Join us for the 2023 Map the System Humber College virtual awards ceremony on Thusday, April 13 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

We will be celebrating another successful year of systems thinking by Humber students and announcing of the winning teams! The top team will advance to the Canadian Finals in May.

How do I attend this online event?

This live event will take place on MS Teams. Register for the event.

What is Map the System?

Map the System is a global competition run by Oxford University that challenges students from any discipline to explore a complex problem that they care about using systems thinking. Rather than jumping straight into innovation and new solutions, Map the System asks students to understand issues at a deeper level and to investigate the scope of existing efforts to solve the problem before recommending their own points of intervention.

Join us in supporting and celebrating student systems thinking work and hear the announcement of the winning teams.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with sara.hassan@humber.ca.

Over the past few years, we've been through a lot of things that were out of our hands, and we learned the importance of our mental health more than ever. The 16th annual Humber 5km Run/Walk is a celebration of resilence with all profits going towards the amazing work of Stella's Place.

In our second year back after lockdown, we hope this run will make us feel strong, happy and free of all the negativity of the past three years. Come and run or walk, it's up to you! Do it for yourself, and do it for this great cause as well.

In early December 2021, Humber officially launched a group for employees who identify as white and/or as having white skin privilege to examine how they have been conditioned by their whiteness and how it shows up in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and within their institutions (home, work, educational, religious, etc.). The Unlearning Circle focuses on unpacking and dismantling white supremacy culture, unlearning it, and changing the behaviours that perpetuate it.

Interested in joining the circle or have questions about it? For more information email theunlearningcircle@humber.ca, or visit our webpage to learn more and access past meeting materials.

Next session: The Circle will hold its fourteenth session virtually on Tuesday, April 11 from 12:05 p.m. to 1:25 p.m.
