Join Athletics and the Spirituality & Wellness Centre for a rejuvenating day of connecting with nature and exploring the benefits of yoga. This in-person event will take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at the Humber Arboretum.

Offering two sessions:

  • 12 p.m.  to 1 p.m.
  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings of nature. Our experienced yoga instructors will guide you through a series of gentle yoga poses, helping you find inner peace and harmony.

Discover the incredible healing power of nature as you practice yoga surrounded by lush greenery and fresh air. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yogi, this event is suitable for all levels.

Don't miss out on this unique experience to deepen your yoga practice while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Free yoga mats and snacks will be given to each student attendee.

This event is also open to staff. No registartion is required for staff. First 10 staff members will be given a free yoga mat.

Siobhan Williams works with faculty to develop Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects in the Office of Research & Innovation. Siobhan loves helping faculty with SoTL projects from idea to publication.

Brendan Wehby-Malicki works with faculty and staff to help plan and carry out their SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) projects in the Office of Research & Innovation. Brendan enjoys supporting both new and experienced researchers in making their proposals come to life.

Collaboration to Celebration

On Monday, September 25 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., we will gather (virtually) and celebrate three years of Humber's BA-ERG! This is an opportunity for us to imagine and look ahead to the paths we can create. We will also hear from some wonderful leaders in the Toronto community to inspire our work ahead.

The main guest speaker is Karla Avis-Birch, Chief Planning Officer, Metrolinx and joining her is Chenowa George, Lead Governance Committee of BEEAM (Black Employees ERG at Metrolinx).

Karla is a civil engineering graduate from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and at Metrolinx is responsible for a team of more than 250 professionals who are at the front end of delivering on a regional transit mission of connecting communities by defining economic benefits of capital projects and ensuring that those benefits are brought to customers in a way that fosters transit choice, value, equity, and a recognition of the impact on communities and on the environment.

She is committed to being a champion for diversity and inclusion for the people she works with and for the people Metrolinx serves across the Region and especially proud of her role as Executive Sponsor of the Black Employee Experience At Metrolinx (BEEAM) ERG.

Walk for Reconciliation

On September 25, Lakeshore Campus will be flooded in orange shirts to spread awareness of the Residential School System with a Walk for Reconciliation. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation happens on September 30, originally and still colloquially known as Orange Shirt Day.

Why are we wearing orange shirts? Orange Shirt Day honours Residential School Survivors, which include those who are living and who passed on, along with those who never made it home. Orange Shirt Day also honors families and intergenerational survivors of the impact of the residential school system in Canada. Orange Shirt Day originated in British Columbia in 2013 and has evolved into a nation-wide symbol that represents acknowledging residential schools as a part of our history and the awareness of the assimilation of the children forced into the Residential School System. Indigenous and non-Indigenous people can wear orange to honor to raise awareness and honor those mentioned.

Taking place at the Lakeshore Campus, participants who register will walk a 1.5 km accessible route. Participants will gather in the field between the L Commons and cottages at the Lakeshore Campus prior to the 10 a.m. start time. View an interactive map of Humber's Lakeshore Campus.

Take a break with birds! It's fall migration season, and between our year-round residents and the migratory birds who pass through twice a year, more than 350 species of birds have been seen in Toronto. Take a lunchtime stroll with Humber Arboretum staff to see which ones we can spot hanging around the gardens and woodlands.

All experience levels are welcome. We will have some binoculars available to borrow.

When: Friday, September 22 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. 

Where: Outdoors at the Humber Arboretum (at the back of North Campus).
