In early December 2021, Humber officially launched a group for employees who identify as white and/or as having white skin privilege to examine how they have been conditioned by their whiteness and how it shows up in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and within their institutions (home, work, educational, religious, etc.). The Unlearning Circle focuses on unpacking and dismantling white supremacy culture, unlearning it, and changing the behaviours that perpetuate it.

Interested in joining the circle or have questions about it? For more information email theunlearningcircle@humber.ca, or visit our webpage to learn more and access past meeting materials.

Next session: The Circle will hold its thirteenth session virtually on Monday, March 20 from 12:05 p.m. to 1:25 p.m.

Faculty and staff are well-positioned to recognize behaviour that may indicate that a learner is in distress and may require support. Being able to recognize the signs of distress and make appropriate referrals are critical first steps in referring a learner for support.

As such, Student Wellness and Equitable Learning is excited to share an updated version of the ‘Yellow Folder’. Recognizing, Responding and Supporting Learners in Distress will help you take steps to support learners experiencing difficulty, provide referrals to resources, as well as tips for taking care of yourself.

Learn strategies for supporting learners in distress. Attend a training session on:

  • Wednesday, March 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (North Campus)
  • Friday, March 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Lakeshore Campus)
