How do we get our students to develop a global perspective? Strategic Council of Canada polling and top business executives rate a global perspective as one of the top skills needed in today’s job market and by future leaders. A global education approach to
teaching focuses on the students’ place in the world community. This focus enriches the student experience by connecting curriculum to real life, helps students manage conflict appropriately and understand the connections among peoples, cultures and environments.

Participants will explore how their teaching and learning can integrate the social, economic, environmental, and political aspects of our world no matter what the subject content.

Is it cold in here? Wear a sweater!
Humber is turning down the temperature on Thursday, February 9 in:

  • North Campus cafeteria (KB/KX student centre area)
  • Lakeshore Building L cafeteria
  • HSF areas

Humber's approach to energy efficiency is that it's a long term strategy not a one day event. About 5 years ago we adopted a policy to permanently lower our set points in the winter from 23 to 21

In the summer our temperatures are set to 25 instead or 22 or even 21, in other buildings. The energy savings are hard to pinpoint, but we have lowered our energy use per square foot by 16.5% since 2005.

What you can do for National Sweater Day:

  • Wear a sweater (the uglier the better). Tweet your photo @ #SweaterDay or Facebook.
  • Donate to online to World Wildlife Fund. Coca Cola will double your donation until March 15, 2012.
  • Buy chocolate bars for WWF in Lakeshore L building at lunch Thursday Feb, 9th.
  • Turn down the temperature at home.
  • Talk about climate change and energy issues in class, at breaks, and everywhere else.
  • Book a Granny Call online.
  • Humber Fundraising grad students challenge you to participate.

Creating and maintaining professional boundaries can be difficult when dealing with adult students. While professional boundaries related to education of minors is well documented, there is less information available for those that teach post secondary students. Learn professional boundary standards appropriate to any program or teacher and student relationship.

You’ve done a good job of conveying content to your students but have you engaged your students through reflection? This workshop will focus on how you can help students to understand and contextualize what they’ve learned into practical and applied scenarios. True critical thinking occurs when students can internalize the information professors convey so that they understand the relevance of the material to their learning and discipline.
