Thank you to all who responded to Humber’s February Healthy YOU Giveaway for Heart Month! There were more than 60 employees who participated.

Here are some of the ways employees prioritized their health and well-being during Heart Month:
- Being consistent with cardio and strength training
- Daily walks in nature or around the neighbourhood
- Use balcony space to grow produce
- Learn to run 5 km by the end of February using a treadmill and a podcast called "Couch to 5K"
- Try not to consume inflammatory foods and additives like seed oils and incorporate more probiotics and healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, and olive oil
- Maintain physical fitness by exercising more at home or at the gym, practicing yoga, playing pickle ball, playing “Just Dance” on Switch, participating in outdoor activities, and trying a variety of fitness classes like cycling, boxing, water therapy, and Pilates
- Routine medical check-ups and investing in a Fitbit to keep track of heart rate
- Take the Learning Resource Commons stairs and visit the Humber Arboretum at the North campus, or take advantage of the warm weather to go to Lakeshore campus and eat lunch and walk by the lake
- Waking up earlier in the morning to have a slow start to the day
- Getting enough sleep each night by aiming for 7-9 hours of good quality sleep
- Choosing healthier food options and preparing nourishing and immune boosting meals at home
- Drinking lots of water
- Incorporating stress management techniques such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, and hobbies to help reduce stress levels
- Dedicating 5 minutes at work to stretch at the desk and walk around the office
- Buying healthier food options on campus for lunch
Spend quality time with partner, family, friends, colleagues and pets including:
- Enjoying walks in nature and exploring various hiking trails around the city
- Going to the park to play and run around
- Trying different workout classes together
- Participating in a push-up competition, completing an increasing number of push-ups in each round
- Being on campus and going for catch up coffees
- Coming up with smoothie and food recipes
- Solving daily puzzles of Sudoku together
