The effect of deforestation on the world is alarming, authorities and citizens have to work together so that our future generations have a place to live in harmony with nature. We depend on our forests as much as the animals that ensure their habitat to continue the legacy of humanity. In this composite technique work, an image to remember the deforestation that is happening silently.

As an immigrant, growing up in two different culture and society, I am interested in exploring who and what influenced the way I am now. Moreover, the complexity of identity, including how it is constructed and how it is perceived, was discussed in one of my classes. There were discussions about representations and biases, about who gets to tell the stories of a people group, and that ultimately influenced the creation of piece. 2022 Priscilla Loo Advertising and Graphic Design Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022 Second Place

I find the process of collage as not only liberating but a powerful means of creating a visual message that often resonates stronger than any single image can. Through collage I am able to compose and manipulate images and media in ways they were never initially intended in order to freely explore the use of narrative, form, colour and pattern. While the photos that comprise my collages were captured in a fraction of a second, I find cathartic the creative process of being able to reflect and “live” with these images as they are transformed into layers of introspection and discovery.
The images, letters and X-Rays that comprise this piece were curated over a period of two years. A period of personal loss, pain and struggle for myself; I’ve tried to capture these emotions which also mark the period of the global COVID-19 pandemic. A period that for many still feels surreal and has brought about shared feelings of turmoil, division, lost freedoms and identity.
Reflecting on the past two years, it’s incredible how fragile and interconnected many of our lives have become. How quickly lives and dreams can be broken; and more importantly, how quickly they can be rebuilt.

Having multiple flowers surrounding her chest shows how women can blossom into something beautiful and unique. Women carry all the same physical attributes, and tend to be drawn to one simple meaning, an object. Most of the world tend to not see just how different each one of us is. Having the same flowers across her chest showcase that yes, we may all have the same physical means as the next women, but we are still so different just like flowers. No two flowers are the same, just the same kind. One may have more petals than the other, or a different colour/shade. I thought of flowers to represent this meaning because of beautiful and unique the are. I love flowers. They make me feel beautiful and powerful, therefore i wanted my model to feel the same way, and she. 2022 Sabrina Chaput Media Communications North Campus Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022

Something about the swirling blackness of the shallows of the lakeshore seems eternal, and like it may contain secrets which humans will never see. The contrast between the dark shadows and the vibrance of the weeds reflects the ongoing tension between life, death, and the passage of time. 2021 Tyla Coppinger Industrial Woodworking Technician North Campus Email 07-03-2022

In addition, viewers tend to appreciate photos with focus on the eyes of the characters. What if I break this notion? That was my starting point. So, I wanted to take a mysterious, dreamy, and compelling picture with other features but eyes. By using the dark background, the concentration on the subject was increased, and the slow shutter speed was used to maximize the mystery, as well as blur the subject's eyes. Not only did the character's hand be placed in front of it to enhance the sense of space, but it also gained a triangle shape to add fun elements of the composition.

The Buddha’s timeless teaching is profound and in Southeast Asia remains a vital part of the cultural fabric of society. Monks in saffron robes making alms round at first light, the scent of incense from the local temple drifting on zephyrs, lay people making offerings at modest shrines, and the chanting of Pali sutras by monks in the evening are part of the daily sights, sounds and smells of Southeast Asia. In the West, the teachings of the Buddha have also had great resonance where they continue to open hearts and minds to greater possibilities for existence. Like all great religions, Buddhism and its adherents have inspired and created a material world to express and echo the teachings. To seek to explore through works of art the vast realms of Buddhism has been for artists a challenge of immense proportions. 2021 Shivika Gandhi Global Business Management Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022
