So I asked my neighbour (44) and her daughter (12) to draw on a piece of paper their house. After that, me with my camera, and them with their cellphones, took photos of textures, colours, objects, etc. that they thought of when they think of their home. It talks about an old tribe in the coast of the country and its stories. It makes a lot of emphasis in the sexism of the time and how women were seen as reproductive beings and the ones in charge of feeding the men and other services. They were dehumanize and seen as animals or plants. I took those characteristics and represented visually how the women were seen in abstract but beautiful way, with a lettuce, that might not look entirely like it, to represent the "plant character" I put paint so it would look like blood and violent and contrasted with flowers to express the reproduction and beauty. 2021 Paola Gomez Advertising Art Direction Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022

Unable to go anywhere or see anyone and no longer being able to go outside created a mindset of being trapped without room for creative motivation. Once the spring months start rolling around and life starts to bloom again in the figurative and literal sense, hope and creativity grows with it. The image of this small sprout represents the beginning of the ending of lockdown and the mental effects that came with it. A country so diverse and vibrant, that amongst the smell of food, the smoke of freshly made chai, the sound of honks and laughs, crowd of hundreds, we miss the beauty of the ones still in hope- The ones that have not yet heard the slogans written in sweat and blood against the fascist government painting blots on the constitution of the world's largest democracy. These are the ones that do not recognize the hierarchy that oppressed their ancestors based on something they call the caste system- the root to a life that stems out with branches that are eventually cut off in the name of opportunities to work as a domestic helper and remain untouched, remain a hidden seed of a practice that was banned more than 70 years ago. This is yet another child, running around laughing with her eyes full of dreams, her heart away from the fate her parents want her to accept. They want her to not be so brave as their trauma is finding another generation to reside in; no education, no identity, living in half-built huts, and stolen electricity if you are lucky. It's my first time voting and I wanted to use my skill in the arts to help campaign for Leni Robredo, a presidential candidate who I believe is the right fit to serve the Filipinos. Leni's campaign color is pink and based on that, I wanted to make an artwork where pink is part of the color palette, so I came up with a digital artwork of a girl with pink hair. The connection to my candidate of choice is there, albeit subtle and low-key. 166 Wed, 03/09/2022 - 12:40 Anonymous 142.214.240.6 The Monster In My Head Painting Acrylic Paint 11x14 Original Piece This piece titled "The Monster In My Head" was inspired by my struggles with mental illness. I have struggled with serious mental illness from a young age, and have always envisioned having mental illness like having a monster living in your head. The monster painted in this artwork is composed of a variety of different things, such as ears, eyes, colours, teeth and noses. Each of these things represent a different emotion/illness. For example, the teeth represent the pain felt after losing someone important, and the bulging eyes shown represent the insufferable anxiety felt at the worst times. The background of this painting is made of black and white lines and swirls, which represents the dull thoughts that are constantly moving around in the back of my head. Living with mental illness is a constant struggle, and the monsters and demons that live in my head will always taunt me, but I am able to overcome it by expressing my feelings through art. We all live a life filled with boundaries that are set by mostly inevitable and unchangeable things, and we are said to do so many things in life without choice. But with art, the possibilities are endless. I was inspired to create this artwork simply by a digital pen. I thought to myself; "This canvas is blank, there is room for anything, and I have the power to create whatever I choose" and therefore, this piece was created. This digital artwork is complied of a variety of different beings, creatures, and faces that run through my head on a daily basis. I think that this artwork represents the chaos of thoughts that go on in my head from day to day, and drawing them helps me calm my mind.
