TYPES OF OFFERS

Humber makes several types of offers. Read your offer letter carefully to understand which type of offer you have received.

Offer

An Offer is a firm offer of admission, with no conditions attached. Qualified applicants are ranked by their admission criteria (academic and secondary requirements) and offers are made to the best qualified applicants first.

Conditional Offer

A Conditional Offer is based on certain conditions that must be met before the first day of class. Applicants that are currently attending secondary school will often receive Conditional Offers. Conditions that must be met could include: completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or completion of specific courses, such as math or English, at a particular level.

Humber will verify that you have met your outstanding conditions before classes start. If you are a current Ontario secondary school student, your final transcript will be sent to us electronically and your final grades used to meet outstanding conditions.

If you are a student from outside of Ontario, you will need to send your final transcript to Ontario Colleges so that it can be forwarded to Humber.

If you are attending summer school or are meeting your conditions by some other means, you will be required to demonstrate proof of completion to Humber. Contact the Admissions department for more information.

Alternate Offer

If you do not meet the admission requirements for the program of your choice, your application may be considered for alternate programs. You will be notified that you have been given an Alternate Offer of admission in this case. Your offer letter will include additional information. Alternate Offers may also be conditional.

Waitlist

When Humber receives a high volume of applications for a particular program, a waitlist is created for qualified applicants for whom there are not enough seats in the program. Applicants may be given offers of admission from the waitlist right up to the fifth day of class.

Waitlists will only be maintained until the fifth day of the program. Those remaining on the waitlist may choose to reapply for a subsequent intake and if they do, they will repeat all components of the admission process for that program. Applicants who were previously waitlisted are not guaranteed admission for the next intake.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Humber uses academic information such as credentials, courses and grades and, in the case of many programs, the results of secondary requirements to determine an applicant’s eligibility for admission. Each program has a specific set of admission requirements which can be viewed on the individual program pages.

Before you apply
Before you apply, be sure that you understand and will meet the minimum admission requirement by the start of the first day of class. If you have any questions about admissions, contact an Admissions representative. Humber’s programs are competitive. Meeting the minimum admission requirement does not guarantee acceptance to the program. The best qualified applicants receive the first admission offers.

Grade or GPA requirements
All programs have academic requirements. Where specific courses, grades or GPAs are required to meet minimum eligibility, these are listed. If Grade 12 courses are required, Grade 11 marks will be used to calculate admission eligibility. Conditional offers can be made on the basis of Grade 11 marks, and proof of completion of Grade 12 courses must be provided before the start of classes.

Applicants outside of Ontario
Applicants that have attended secondary school outside Ontario must prove that his or her educational standing is equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
For all Canadian provinces or territories, successful completion of a Grade 12 diploma is required. For the province of Quebec, Secondary V is required.

English Language Proficiency Policy
All applicants must meet Humber’s English Language Proficiency Policy.

International Applicants
International applicants should review admission equivalents by country.

SECONDARY REQUIREMENTS

Certain Humber programs have secondary requirements, such as portfolios, tests and auditions, which are used to demonstrate eligibility for admission. Review the details of the secondary requirements, including what to submit, how and when, or how to register for an on-campus secondary requirement.

The example below indicates where the "View Secondary Requirements" link is found under the "Selection Includes Secondary Requirements" section within the Admission Requirements tab on the program pages.

APPLICANT CATEGORIES

Applicants will be in one of four applicant categories, depending on certain factors including age, secondary school experience and postsecondary school experience.

Secondary School Applicants

An applicant is considered a secondary school applicant if they are currently registered in, or have graduated from secondary school, and have no postsecondary experience. Humber uses your secondary school courses and grades to determine program eligibility.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility.

Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Limited Enrolment Programs

Certain programs are highly competitive, and receive a sufficient number of qualified applicants to fill the program by February 1 for the fall semester. To have the best chance of being accepted to a limited enrolment program, apply before the February 1 equal consideration date. Applicants who apply after February 1 are only considered if space remains in the program. For winter and summer semesters, applicants are considered and admitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Types of Offers

For information about the different types of admissions offer (Conditional Offer, etc.), please read above.

Waitlists

Applicants placed on a waitlist will be advised in writing should seats become available. Students should check MyHumber for the latest admissions information. Waitlists will be maintained until September only. After September, those remaining on a waitlist must reapply to the program the following year and repeat all components of the admission process for that program (e.g. interview, testing, etc.). Applicants placed on a waitlist should not assume that they will automatically be granted admission the following year. Applicants placed on a waitlist for a program that also has a scheduled January or May intake may be offered admission for the next session, without the need to reapply. The Admissions Office will contact applicants with further information.

International students will be provided with offers of admission as early as December to allow them to apply for the necessary visas.

Admissions Review Process

Applicants who would like additional feedback about an admission decision can contact an admissions officer at the campus where they applied.

Following that process, applicants may choose to launch a formal admissions appeal. Additional information can be obtained in Academic Regulations.

Re-admission

Students whose studies have been considerably interrupted will be required to petition the college for re-admission. Information about this process can be obtained in Academic Regulations.
