Since joining the University of Guelph-Humber eight years ago, Adam Sandford has prioritized involving students in his research and continues to go the extra mile to mentor students on research concepts and methods. Notably, many of these student researchers have been included as authors on the resulting papers and presentations.
Adam has developed a strong and progressive research program within the field of Cognitive Psychology, with specialization in facial recognition processes. From the start, Adam has gone out of his way to involve students as research assistants in his research projects, and continues to always go the extra mile to mentor students on research concepts and methods that are taught in the Psychology Program at the University of Guelph-Humber.
Many of the students who have worked with Adam as research assistants are also included as authors and presenters on the resulting papers and presentations, serving to enhance the student experience and the profile of our community within the scientific community. Adam is an author on 13 peer reviewed journal publications, and 6 additional papers that are currently under review or in progress.
Adam gives conferences presentations each year to disseminate his research at various meetings, but particularly the annual meeting of the Canadian Psychological Association, for which he serves as the Director of Science as a board member. To date, Adam has received approximately 160K of funding for his research; a large portion of this funding was used to hire students from our community as research assistants to provide them with enriched experiential learning experiences.
Adam's research initiatives have led to a partnership with an external community partner: Big Team Science - Psychological Science Accelerator, which is a network of 2468 researchers from 73 countries that work collectively together to address big questions founded on real-world and/or theoretical problems. In addition to serving as a board member for the Canadian Psychological Association, Adam is also a member of the following professional associations, helping to provide students with relevant resources and opportunities: The Missing Persons Research Hub, Psychonomic Society, Facial Identification Scientific Working Group, Women in Cognitive Science Canada, Psi Chi International Honor Society (Faculty Advisor), Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science.
