Renewal of funding for now 3 years running, with a total of $1.35 million in grant funding secured since 2023, is a testament to their leadership. And let's not forget their work to advance outcomes for equity-deserving students resulting in a total of over 88% of award recipients identifying as belonging to an underrepresented group.”

Chantal Joy, Student Success & Engagement

The GLOW Bursary Leads saw a student unmet need and they took action. They set about securing sources of funding, designing and deploying a new bursary to meet that need and the GLOW bursary program to support students with unpaid WIL was born.

The GLOW Bursary Leads saw a student unmet need and they took action. They set about securing sources of funding, designing and deploying a new bursary to meet that need and the GLOW bursary program to support students with unpaid WIL was born. Their North Star? Reduce the financial hardship faced by many of our students whose academically required Work Placement is unpaid. WIL is a critical component of student learning in most of Humber's programs, and the bursary is instrumental in supporting completion and facilitating students' acquisition of industry-relevant employability skills.

Stepping outside their day-to-day responsibilities, they rallied together and led this initiative on behalf of Humber. The outcome is that large numbers of students, facing financial hardship that presented an obstacle to completing their academically required WIL placement, were supported in completing their studies.

Along the way, they also earned external recognition and accolades for Humber's WIL program with external organizations like Magnet and CEWIL (Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Canada), cementing our credibility in those networks as a locale of robust, quality WIL delivery. Renewal of funding for now 3 years running, with a total of $1.35 million in grant funding secured since 2023, is a testament to their leadership.

Their work advanced outcomes for equity-deserving students resulting in a total of over 88% of award recipients identifying as belonging to an underrepresented group. They truly went above and beyond to position Humber to receive this funding and as a result, positively impacted the wellbeing and success of our students.

FLAS Grab 'n Go Food Bank Team
Amy Weir, Candace Iron, Fredy Mejia, Natasha Curtis, Sarah Armenia, Sarah Henderson

“Their proactive approach reflects a deep understanding of student challenges and a commitment to creating real, immediate solutions. This initiative is not just helpful, it's essential. The team's efforts directly support student retention, focus, and academic success by removing a major barrier to learning.”

Chris Irwin, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences

Despite limited resources, the team has built a highly effective system that operates once a week at the North and Lakeshore campuses and is re-stocked frequently to meet the high demand. This level of responsiveness ensures that students can consistently access nutritious food without stigma or barriers.

The Grab 'n Go Team has accomplished its amazing work by tirelessly collecting food donations throughout the academic year. They have promoted food drives on all of Humber's campuses at multiple events, including this year's President's BBQ and Showcase. Despite limited resources, the team has built a highly effective system that operates once a week at the North and Lakeshore campuses and is re-stocked frequently to meet the high demand. This level of responsiveness ensures that students can consistently access nutritious food without stigma or barriers.

The initiative has been incredibly impactful. At the North Campus, since September, they have distributed more than 1,600 non-perishable food items and approximately 130 pounds of fresh produce. Additionally, the Lakeshore Grab 'n Go has distributed approximately 1,940 food items since September. So, over this past academic year, between the campuses, they have provided the Humber community with 3,540 food items, plus 130 pounds of fresh produce.

The initiative is sustained through generous donations from faculty and staff, which demonstrates how the team has inspired a strong sense of community and shared responsibility across Humber. By going above and beyond their roles, the team behind the Grab 'n Go Food Bank has created a safe, respectful, and essential service that helps to address the critical issue of food insecurity for our students. Their work is a shining example of what it means to go the extra mile.

“The Supply Chain Managment graduate certificate faculty went the extra mile in 2024/2025 as their program expanded by over 250%, resulting in an immediate demand for new facutly, new resources, and both faculty and student support. They also needed to move the program to an asynchronous online format in four months.”

Michael MacDougall, Associate Dean, Longo Faculty of Business

The faculty in this program truly went above and beyond to ensure that program standards remained high, and that students entering Humber experienced an elite level of education that Humber prides itself with.

Throughout the fall of 2025, the Supply Chain Management graduate certificate was identified internationally as a quality program that continued to provide a PGWP to international students upon graduation. This resulted in an over 250% increase in student count from 2024 to 2025 (180 total students to 457). Moving the program to online also supported Humber's corridor model as the online program was available to domestic students.

The faculty in this program truly went above and beyond to ensure that program standards remained high, and that students entering Humber experienced an elite level of education that Humber prides itself with. Faculty worked tirelessly to move the program to an asynchronous online format in four short months. Regardless of how many sections needed to open, the faculty worked together to ensure that any faculty taking on a course had the resources and support they needed to provide an unparallel student experience that is reinforced through our capstone courses and industry partner feedback which directly impact the KPIs for this program.

The faculty banded together and worked tirelessly to support our students, new faculty, and the move to online with dedication, professionalism, that is the very definition of "going the extra mile". Without their drive to support student excellence, the rapid expansion of this program would not have been possible.
