Mallory Lawton’s innovative, compassionate, and persistent support has dramatically improved academic success among Humber’s student-athletes. Her work has led to record-high GPAs, honor roll rates, and national academic awards, while transforming “at risk” students into graduates. Mallory is a trusted mentor who never gives up on her athletes.

Mallory sets realistic success goals with the student athletes through numerous regular and consistent one-on-one appointments. Instead of waiting for student athletes to contact her, she takes the time to reach out to them and ensure they are prepared for academic success. She spends countless hours mediating between the student athlete, program coordinators, and coaches to ensure a timetable that limits absences from classes and/ or practices while also considering work and family obligations. The outcome has had a significant impact on communication and relationship building while ensuring less student athletes miss class which ultimately leads to increased academic success.

Through mutual trust and respect, she has consistently encouraged the athletes to regularly attend class, complete assignments on time, study for tests, and effectively balance their personal, athletic, and academic responsibilities. She never gives up on them. Mallory Lawton has created a retention strategy for our student athletes that has gone beyond the traditional norms of advising.
