As part of Career Month 2022, Humber College's Advising & Career Services team is offering free MBTI and Strengths Workshops throughout February and March to students and alumni. In addition to receiving their Top 5 Strengths and/or MBTI preferences and type indicators, student attendees will receive a $15 gift card after completing the workshop. Space is limited, please encourage students to register for a workshop online using our events calendar:.

Strengths Workshop

By taking this workshop, students will learn about their Top 5 Clifton Strengths, and how they can align these strengths to their career-related pursuits.

The horrific enslavement of Black/African peoples was not so long ago.

This is the second post to call attention to the fallacy that slavery was so long ago, and as such, Black people ought to just forget about it and move on. Not so long ago, many Blacks were owned by Whites. Many Blacks were refused access to education, places to live, good jobs, dignity, fair policing, fair child welfare, justice in the courts and the list goes on. Much of this lack (blocking) of access continues.

February is Black History Month and Black History is everyone's history. To recognize and honour the legacy and contributions of Black Canadians and to learn more about how Humber is acknowledging and celebrating Black History Month, our host, Shirantha Beddage, met with Morris Beckford, Manager, Education & Training in the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion

In this honest and thought provoking conversation, we reflect on how deeply entrenched anti-Black racism is in education and how individual faculty members and educational institutions can respond to anti-Black racism and create a more just and honest educational system

Map the System is a global competition that challenges us to think differently about social and environmental change. Rather than jumping straight into a solution or a quick fix, Map the System invites students from all academic disciplines to use ‘systems thinking’ to understand complex social and environmental challenges. 

This is Humber’s third year participating in the competition, with 112 teams and over 200 students from across all faculties registered. We are looking for Humber staff and faculty to mentor student teams. Come join the movement!

What does mentoring involve?

You will support student teams as they undertake systems research and mapping of a social or environmental challenge.

When will this happen?

Mentoring will take place from late February - early April 2022. Mentorship guidelines and questions will be provided during the matching process, which can be negotiated between the mentor and team depending on the amount of support teams are looking for. 

What does this mean for you?

Your assistance and support of student’s systems-change research is greatly appreciated. In return for your time, you will receive our heartfelt thanks and a gift card!

Enhancing Institutional EDI Knowledge of Disability and Academic Accessibility:

  • Testing Services is available by appointment only for Humber and Guelph-Humber learners who are registered with Accessible Learning Services.
     
  • Learners are required to make an appointment on our scheduling site prior to coming on site to complete testing. View information about the learner process.
     
  • Please note that learners may choose not to use Testing Services for every assessment. 
     
  • Learners must advise faculty prior to each assessment of their intent to utilize their testing accommodations and write with Testing Services. Once this is confirmed with learners, faculty must submit their assessment to Testing Services no later than five business days prior to their requested write date.

Hello everyone,

We wanted to reach out to share some exciting movements within the SSE Leadership team. 

Student Learning Services

  • Nafeeza Kadir – Manager, Student Learning Services – will be starting her parental leave on February 25th, welcoming a new member into her family.
  • Dimple Rai will be returning from parental leave on April 4th. At this time, Dimple will move into the role of Interim Manager, Student Learning Services for the duration of Nafeeza’s leave (October 2023).
  • In the interim period (February 28 – April 1), Shaun Carson – Associate Director, Student Life and Learning – will support the Student Learning Services team.

Advising and Career Services

  • Phil Legate, who has been serving as Interim Manager, Advising and Career Services will remain in this role for the duration of Dimple’s assignment (October 2023).

Residence Life

  • Tuba Chishti, who has been serving as Interim Manager, Residence Life, will similarly continue in this role for the duration of Phil’s assignment (October 2023).

Please join us in wishing Nafeeza well as she begins her leave, welcoming Dimple back to the team, and continued success for Phil and Tuba in their interim appointments.

The Centre for Healthy Living (CHL) is looking for pregnant women, new mothers, infants, children/youth, persons living with neurological conditions or palliative illness to attend a specialty clinic in which students of the Massage Therapy program will provide free assessments and treatments.

Appointments will take place in CHL's Teaching and Learning Clinic (A109), under the guidance and supervision of registered massage therapists.

Sunday morning and afternoon appointments available.

Dear staff, 

I hope you are keeping well.

On Monday, March 7, more in-person learning and related activity will resume on campus. 

As we look ahead to March, teams across the college that have been working remotely should be making plans to return to their planned work arrangements as communicated to them by their manager. We look forward to having more staff and students on campus working and learning together. 

Throughout the pandemic, Humber has made decisions based on the latest Public Health and government directives, while balancing the needs and health and safety of our students and employees. Thank you for all that you have done to help us navigate these changes as we help students to achieve their goals.

Health and safety are always top priorities at Humber. According to the Reopening Ontario Act, physical distancing is not required in learning spaces in post-secondary institutions. Enhanced personal protective equipment in certain settings, consistent with public health recommendations, will be provided. Humber also monitors and continuously tests the air quality of buildings and spaces on our campuses and ensures that expected standards are adhered to in other leased locations. For more information on health and safety measures on campus visit www.humber.ca/campus-return
