The Campus Bookstores are OPEN for the Winter 2022 Term and offering an online shopping experience as well as in-store shopping to provide students and the Humber community with one stop convenience. Students can purchase everything from their course materials to the supplies such as notebooks, paper, writing instruments, calculators, etc. to aid in their studies on or off campus.

Our stores will be closed from December 24th, 2021 until January 3rd, 2022.

Students can still place their orders online North Campus Store or Lakeshore Campus Store.

Orders will be filled and shipped week beginning Jan.4th, 2022 to students' homes or to an address of their choice. If an item is not available in our store, that order will be sent to another Campus Store within our chain for fulfillment. Delivery time for these will be 4-6 days.

To provide contactless service, online order pick up will be handled at the window outside the store (Window in the Wall) at the North Campus.

For updated information on Store News & Hours, please visit North Campus Store and Lakeshore Campus Store.

We will continue to provide both print and digital options for as many courses as possible. Please note that not all publisher's materials are available to the Campus Bookstore in a digital format. Digital delivery (access code) distribution can vary from providing an access code online to providing a printed code card for physical delivery.

Please take a moment to read our FAQs for answers to our most received inquiries.

Your patience is much appreciated during these unprecedented times. At both the campus stores, we're giving everybody lots of room practicing physical/social distancing, washing our hands, wearing masks and gloves as well as regularly sanitizing common areas of each store.

Thank you.

Humber Hybrid Work Training logo

Many faculties and departments are considering instituting hybrid working arrangements for their teams. For many, this may be their first time working in a hybrid working arrangement. A hybrid working arrangement means that on any given day, team members may be working on campus, remotely, and on different work schedules.

To assist managers and employees contemplating the possibility of hybrid working arrangements, a series of short Hybrid Work Training Videos has been developed to begin your planning process. Each video is 3-12 minutes in length and is intended to provide key information to consider related to each topic. All videos in the series are now available and can be accessed on the Hybrid Work Training Video Series website

The series contains eight (8) short videos, as follows

  • Video 1: An Introduction to Hybrid Working Arrangements (7 minutes)
  • Video 2: Deciding who works in a Hybrid Working Arrangement (12 minutes)
  • Video 3: What a Hybrid Working Arrangement looks like (7 minutes)
  • Video 4: Considerations for any changes to the physical workspace supporting Hybrid Working Arrangements (5 minutes)
  • Video 5: Technology needs to support Hybrid Working Arrangements (10 minutes)
  • Video 6: Supporting team effectiveness in Hybrid Working Arrangements (3 minutes)
  • Video 7: Effective Communications when establishing Hybrid Working Arrangements (4 minutes)
  • Video 8: Applying Change Management principles in Hybrid Working Arrangements (7 minutes)

In addition to the video series, detailed training sessions have also been developed to support employees and managers in the transition to hybrid working arrangements. Training topics include Humber’s Remote Working Policy and hybrid working, managing and contributing in a hybrid working arrangement, ensuring well-being while working in a hybrid working arrangement, workplace safety, and technology needs for hybrid working. For further details on this training, please watch the Communiqué for upcoming announcements.

If you have any questions about the video series, please contact oe@humber.ca

Hybrid Work Training Announcement and details

While hybrid working arrangements are being considered, it may be the first time for many people working in a hybrid working arrangement. A hybrid working arrangement means that on any given day, team members may be working on campus, remotely, and on different work schedules.

To prepare managers and employees for hybrid working arrangements, detailed training sessions have been developed to support employees and managers in the transition to hybrid working arrangements.

There are multiple dates for all training sessions in January and February 2022. Please review the Hybrid Work Training Calendar, select the date and time that works best for you, and register for the sessions you are interested in.

Each training session has a maximum number of participants, but additional sessions will be scheduled based on demand.

If you have any questions about the training, please contact oe@humber.ca

Each December, the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness typically donates non-perishable food, health & hygiene, and household items in support of Ernestine's Women's Shelter.

As campus access is still limited, we are supporting this important community partner through monetary donations again this year, and have set-up a Canada Helps page with a goal of raising $2,000. Thanks to the generosity of the Humber community, we are already close - please help bring us to the finish line!

The holiday season can bring with it added stress and anxiety for survivors of gender-based violence, and your donations will help ensure that Ernestine's can continue to provide support to all the women and children in the shelter and out in the community.

If you have the means, please take a moment to contribute what you can (tax receipts are provided). Every little helps!

Please visit our Canada Helps Page before January 1, 2022, to donate.

Thank you in advance!

Your friends in the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness.

What We Do

Ernestine’s Women’s Shelter is a community-based feminist organization run by women that provides support and shelter for women and children escaping abuse and violence. Ernestine’s is a 32-bed emergency shelter with 14 private bedrooms.

We provide a home for the women and their children – who stay with us from six months to over one year – until we find appropriate housing for them. During their stay, we provide them with all the necessities they might need (new bedding, clothes, school supplies, toiletries, baby supplies, prescriptions not covered by OHIP, loaded Presto cards, and anything else they might need).

In the last year, Ernestine’s provided shelter and support to 52 adults and 33 children, who called Ernestine’s their home.

In addition to shelter clients, we support over 600 women and children from across the GTA through our Outreach Program. We provide counselling services and programs as well as access to the shelter’s on-site donation rooms and food bank to our Outreach clients.

In 2020, Ernestine’s offered lifelines to 269 adults and 355 children in the community through our Outreach Programs. In the same year, 252 adults and 344 children were serviced as a result of the 735 times Ernestine’s food support services were accessed. This is a 70% increase in number of families who received food support.

We provide a range of holistic services to our shelter and Outreach clients. Our services and programs include 24-hour crisis assistance, individual and group-based counselling support, Child & Youth programs, as well as legal, housing, and immigration support and advocacy.

Since we opened our doors in 1983, we have supported over 15,000 women and children.

An assembly of faculty, support staff, students, and administrators, Humber College Council (HCC) is Humber’s collective employee voice, making suggestions to Humber College’s President as it relates to long and short‐term priorities outlined in the institution’s Strategic Plan. To ensure the Humber community is informed of upcoming events, new initiatives and important issues, HCC reports the highlights of its monthly meetings through this medium.

HCC held its fourth meeting of the 2021-2022 academic year on Thursday, December 9th, 2021.

COMING TO CAMPUS IN WINTER 2022

Rob Kilfoyle, Director, Public Safety and Andrew Leopold, Director, Communications tabled what to expect when on campus this winter. Given the changing COVID situation since this presentation was conducted, this information has been omitted in the highlights. 2021-2022 FINANCIAL FORCAST

Sanjay Puri, Vice-President, Administration presented on the college’s financial position for the 2021/2022 fiscal year. It was noted that the college benefits from two funding sources: Government funding (e.g., grants) and tuition fees. Like other provincially funded colleges, Humber obtains government funding based on performance against key metrics as outlined in its Strategic Mandate Agreement with the government of Ontario. Due to COVID-19, the government is not tying the colleges to these metrics this year. Despite this, Humber assessed its performance against these metrics and determined that the college exceeded its performance as per the SMA for this fiscal year. In terms of full-time enrolment, the college is currently 9.5% below the budget target for 21/22. Part-time enrolment has experienced a reduced level of activity. When projecting the college’s overall fiscal position by year end, the preliminary forecast is a $6.8 million deficit.

NEXT HCC MEETING

The next Humber College Council meeting will be on Thursday, January 20th, 2022 through Microsoft Teams.

For questions or comments about HCC meeting highlights, contact regan.mancini@humber.ca. For supporting materials or opportunities to provide feedback, please visit the College Council website or contact shovani.samalia@humber.ca.
