Role of College Council
College Council is the collective voice of the College in that it is an assembly of faculty, support staff, students, and administrators who suggest directions in which the College should proceed. College Council advises the President on those College issues which it considers to be long and short-term priorities as identified in Humber’s Strategic Plan. As of 2018, Humber’s 3 Strategic Pillars provide the foundation for the strategic priorities and corresponding supporting actions:
i. Career-Ready Citizens
ii. Accessible Education
iii. Healthy and Inclusive Community
The Council advises the President of the College in matters affecting academic policy, planning, and practice, including, the successful implementation of Humber’s Strategic Plan initiatives. College policy or business items ultimately proceeding to the College's Board of Governors may appear at College Council at the discretion of the President, before final disposition at the Board of Governors.

Humber’s Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology (FAST) research team collaborates with industry partner Complete Wind Corporation on a project that exemplifies the power of data visualization.
Through the use of Tableau and data visualization features, the research team has been able to derive deeper insights into turbine data which resulted in valuable recommendations for service and maintenance. As a result of the project, Complete Wind Corporation has been enabled to better harness data, provide exceptional insights to their customers, and make educated projections of turbine health.
Complete Wind Corporation works with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and owners/operators to meet their specific wind turbine rotor blade needs. With a core management team having greater than 15 years of experience in the Wind Turbine Industry, they have the experience required to meet specific needs and services like rotor blade inspection and repair, End of Warranty (EOW) rotor blade inspections and turbine performance troubleshooting.
To learn more about the project, read Data-Visualization: Deeper Insights as a result of Better Visuals.

The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology would like to share with the Humber community our FAST News April 2022 Issue.
The special issue shines a spotlight on Humber’s Centres of Innovation—an essential part of the research and innovation ecosystem that propelled Humber College ITAL’s research ranking to #2 in Canada and #1 in Ontario.
Whether it is collaborating with industry partners on transformative projects, shaping the future of business and entrepreneurship or housing North America’s first of its kind Broadcast-Broadband Convergence (B2C) Lab with an ATSC 3.0 broadcast system and 5G core network, Humber’s Centres of Innovation (COI) are continually pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation. The new issue of SPARK includes the latest updates from Humber’s COI Network as well as special contributions by Dr. Sharon McIntyre, founder and president of New Cottage Industries & Co., and Tyler Charlebois, Director, Centres of Innovation Network and Partnership Development.
SPARK features Dean’s Message and Editor’s Note that welcome you into the world of research and innovation. No matter where your curiosity lies—from social innovation to health & wellness to technology innovation to business and entrepreneurship—SPARK is here to inspire you on your research and innovation journey.
The special issue also includes a call-to-action on page 35 for all research assistants. Humber Press would like to hear from students about their experience working on research projects. We’d like to recognize and celebrate research assistants by sharing their stories on our social media channels. Please submit a short video (60-90 seconds) about your experience as a research assistant to humberpress@humber.ca by responding to the prompt in SPARK.
Greetings Faculty, sharing a timely reminder as the semester end approaches: Winter 2022 Collaborate Recordings Cleanup.
Recordings made January 1 to April 22, 2022 (e.g. this semester) will be deleted as of May 15, 2022.
Please back up/upload to Panopto any Winter 2022 Collaborate recordings that students with extensions or accommodations might need or that you'd like to retain for your own purposes.
For help on how to download, back up, and store your recordings:
Want to get ahead of this in future semesters? Check out our pro tip:
To use video in Blackboard, we recommend that you upload the file to Panopto, Humber’s video streaming service, which is licensed for this purpose. After you add your video to Panopto, you can then share the link and/or embed the video into your course.
The Instructional Support Studio in the Centre for Innovative Learning has extended hours and added “bookings” to support our teaching teams!
After over 40 years of dedicated service to the Humber College community, Mary Vesia is retiring on June 30, 2022.
During her time at Humber Mary has served in a variety of different roles including:
In her current role, as the Dual Credit Project and Financial Co-ordinator, Mary has served as a strong advocate, working tirelessly to secure new opportunities focused on student success for learners in our Dual Credit and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs (OYAP). She is well-respected, hardworking, supportive and shared that what she will miss most, “is feeling the energy that students bring to their Humber experience.”
Retirement holds excitement for Mary as she plans to travel and spend time enjoying the company of her friends and family. While we wish her the best in her new adventures, she will be truly missed by the College community.
Please join me in thanking Mary and for celebrating the numerous and varied contributions that she has made to the Humber College community and most notably to supporting student success over the years.
In kindness,
Christina Meredith
