I am delighted to announce that Jenna Donelson has been appointed as Director, Public Affairs & Strategic Engagement within the Government Relations, Marketing and Communications department.

In 2019, Jenna joined Humber College to develop the new Public Affairs Manager role, focusing on engaging government and other key stakeholders to advance some of Humber’s strategic goals, including developing government champions for the historic Humber Cultural Hub project. While at Humber, Jenna has worked to raise awareness about the Humber Cultural Hub with all three levels of government, played a key role in the successful advocacy to empower colleges to grant independent nursing degrees and helped inform Provincial policies for colleges throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She has also led events and campus visits featuring Premier Ford, Federal and Provincial Ministers and other notable elected officials and dignitaries.

Jenna is a public policy professional with more than a decade of experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Prior to joining Humber, she was Head of Policy Development and Regulatory Affairs at Lending Loop, Canada’s first peer-to-peer FinTech company. Jenna also served as a Senior Policy Advisor to Ontario's Minister of Finance where she oversaw many key financial services files as well as post-secondary and education files. It was through this experience that she first engaged with public policy tools that could increase greater access to education and innovation within the college sector.

Please join me in congratulating Jenna on her new role.

Thanks,

Kelly Jackson
Vice President, External Affairs and Professional Learning

Events on campus will be permitted to resume as of May 2, 2022.

The Temporary Use of Space for Events Policy in effect since July 2019, remains in place.

All events and activities using space on campus require a permit which will be issued by the booking authority, subject to inspection by the department of Public Safety or other college officials upon demand. This will ensure that all bookings have been vetted, meet risk management guidelines and are logged properly so that in the event of an emergency we can take appropriate action.

Some examples of the types of events/activities that are impacted by the policy/procedure are (but are not limited to):

  • Vendor sales in the concourse i.e. Valentine’s Day gifts, graduation rings, flowers etc.
  • Student/Department led bake/craft sales and/or project displays
  • Art shows
  • Conference activities
  • Student film shoots
  • Information tabling
  • Performances
  • Any use of space outside of regular business hours
  • Etc.

All external requests for booking space on campus will be managed by Humber’s Central Events Office (previously Conference Services) and should be referred to an Event Logistics Liaison at hcs@humber.ca. External organizations may be referred to humber.ca/conference to request a quote. Internal requests for booking space will continue to be verified and processed through the Registration Office Scheduling Department via a Temporary Use of Space Application form. If a request is deemed to be external, it will be forwarded to the Central Events Office.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the following:

  1. Rhonda Harrison (Registrar’s Office) – rhonda.harrison@humber.ca
  2. Connie Sanfilippo (Campus Services) – connie.sanfilippo@humber.ca
  3. Rob Kilfoyle (Public Safety) – rob.kilfoyle@humber.ca

We look forward to hosting more events throughout the college over the coming months.

At the start of each term, there is an influx of international students inquiring about proper registration protocols. The International Centre has a dynamic student service to assist inquiring international students through Q&A webchats hosted by the International Customer Service Advisor team (ICSA).

There, students can join a live session on Microsoft Teams every weekday from Monday through Friday in a 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. time slot. The two time slots provide the students who reside in different time zones the opportunity to pick which session works best for them.

This platform gives students the opportunity to get answers to questions like how to find academic support, how to register for courses, why they have study permit holds, or whether their program is registration block-based or course-based.

Live Q&A Webchat Schedule

If students are unable to attend a live session they can always send an inquiry through the contact form. Please feel free to share this information with your Faculty and/or department.
