Continuous Professional Learning, in partnership with our colleagues in Advancement & Alumni Relations, is excited to announce the launch of our first special discount program this Fall. As of Wednesday, August 24, all Humber alumni will be eligible to receive a 20 per cent discount on CPL’s Rapid Skill courses. The CPL-Alumni discount program will be running through to January 1, 2023.

Rapid Skills courses are 2-3 hours long, providing participants with a ‘micro-burst’ of learning that drives skill acquisition within a compact timeframe. Designed by subject matter experts to meet the needs of busy working professionals and their schedules, we are excited about this venture and hope it will bring more of our alumni back to Humber to learn and grow.

If you are a proud alumnus yourself or would like to share this offer with someone who is, please visit humber.ca/alumni/cploffer for more information.

Have you implemented a clever solution to a time-consuming task at the office or while working remotely?

If you are a Humber administrative or support staff member who has found a smart fix to a time-consuming task, you can share your solution and be eligible to win rewards.

The BE Challenge (organized by Humber’s Office of Research and Innovation, ORI) aims to discover and celebrate Humber’s front-line innovators. If you’ve already implemented a simple, low-cost or no-cost integration and/or automation solution that improved on-campus or remote work arrangements, then you could become a finalist in the BE Challenge! To participate, fill out this simple Qualtrics form to tell us about your solution.

To learn more about the Challenge, check out the BE Challenge FAQ’s and some example solutions. You can also reach out to us at be@humber.ca with your questions about the Challenge.

Have fun!

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jason Merai as the new Associate Dean, Music & Fine Arts, in the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts.

Jason is a higher education professional with more than 15 years’ experience. In his most recent role as director of Student & Community Engagement for York University’s Faculty of Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD), Jason oversaw student-centred services related to academic advising, scholarships, bursaries and awards, peer mentorship, and student retention for 3,000 undergraduate students. He also supported academic curriculum planning and the development of AMPD’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Framework.

Prior to working at York, Jason was a senior policy advisor for the Postsecondary Accountability Branch of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, advising the Minister’s and Premier’s Offices. He has also served as the executive director of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, and an inspector for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

Jason previously worked at both Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber, teaching 12 courses across the Social Service Worker, Community and Justice Services, Justice Studies, and Family and Community Social Services programs. He recently was the keynote convocation speaker for Business & Community Social Services graduates.

A two-time graduate of the University of Toronto, Jason holds a Master of Education in Leadership, Higher & Adult Education and a BA in Political Science and History. His first day at Humber will be August 29, 2022.

Please join me in welcoming Jason back to Humber.
