ATTENTION FULL-TIME AND PARTIAL LOAD EMPLOYEES

Sun Life reviews the utilization of group insurance benefits at regular intervals. From time to time premium rates for these benefits are adjusted either upwards or downwards to reflect the level of usage, cost to provide these benefits, anticipated cost to maintain the benefits in the future and the cost of inflation.

Effective February 1, 2021 premium rates will be adjusted as itemized in the table below. These premium changes have been reviewed and approved by the Joint Insurance Committee (JIC) of OPSEU, OCASA and College Compensation and Appointments Council.

Employees may see an increase or decrease in the employee portion of the benefit premiums depending on the type of benefits they have elected.

The current employee/employer cost sharing arrangements will continue as shown below.

HRMS Change Team

Sustainability is one of Humber College’s main 2018-2023 Strategic Priorities, which states “…preserving our collective future by taking responsibility for the social, economic and environmental impact of the decision we make today and in the future.” As we work towards achieving this goal and as we reflect on the on-going COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in many Humber employees working from home to help minimize the spread of the virus, we must explore alternative methods to continuously provide Payroll Services to our employees in an easy and timely manner.

We are pleased to inform you that the 2020 T4 Tax Forms will be made available online through the Human Resource Management System (HRMS) rather than being printed and mailed to you. T4s will be made available within the HRMS no later than February 28, 2021. We will provide more information on how to view and print your T4s in the coming weeks.

If you require a printed copy of your T4 Tax Form mailed to you, please contact the HRMS Support Centre. The mailing address on your HRMS profile will be used when sending out these forms, as such if your address has recently changed please update your current address in the HRMS no later than January 22, 2021. All T4s will be issued with the legal name we have on file.

Note:

  • For former employees who do not have an active employment with Humber and do not have access to the HRMS, their T4s will be mailed to their home address on file by February 28, 2021. If their address changed after leaving Humber College, then they will need to contact the HRMS Support Center to provide us with their current address no later than January 22, 2021.
  • Your T4s will also be uploaded to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website. If you have a personal CRA account, you will be able to securely view your tax form details when you login to your personal CRA Account.
  • To learn how to setup or access your personal CRA account, click here.

Please contact the HR Support Center if you have any questions regarding this communication.

There are three ways to connect with our HR Support Centre:

  1. Call us at ext. 5001 from a Humber phone line or dial 416.675.5001
  2. Chat with us at www.humber.ca/hrchat
  3. Submit an e-form at www.humber.ca/hrinquiry

Thank you!

Information Technology Services is excited to introduce QR code scanning for in-classroom technical support. Using your mobile device camera and photo app, Faculty can now scan QR codes (located on or near the lectern) for a quicker, more efficient AV technical support experience. With a simple scan, faculty can report an issue and a technician is immediately dispatched.

Use your mobile device camera to scan the QR Code or visit humber.ca/avsupport.

Today, the Government of Ontario announced that it is invoking a state-of-emergency effective immediately for a period of at least 28 days. The province is also enacting stay-at-home orders effective as of Thursday, January 14 at 12:01 a.m. Please see the full announcement here.

Humber is continuing to plan for Winter 2021 classes scheduled to begin on January 18, based on Ontario government information about post-secondary education that accompanied the announcement.

The Humber Child Care Centre will remain open.

Residence will remain open with move-in days proceeding as scheduled.

Staff on campus must continue to be limited to only those necessary for the delivery of in-person learning and essential campus operations.

We are assessing these latest health and safety measures, and will update the Humber community in the coming days on any impacts on college operations and academic delivery.

The Government of Ontario recently announced a $50 million investment in the Virtual Learning Strategy and a call for Expressions of Interest for members of the eCampusOntario Consortium to create eligible content.

The investment is intended to ensure Ontario students can access quality, uncompromised post-secondary virtual learning and will improve Ontario-based virtual learning programming that is digital by design. The vision is for Ontario to be a global leader in virtual learning.

The one-time funding has a one-step application process and EOI guidance including full documentation describing each category, an application template and evaluation criteria are available here. Funds will be distributed under five categories:

  • Digital Content
  • Digital Capacity Targeted Supports
  • Digital Capacity Collaborative Supports
  • Digital Fluency
  • Digital Delivery

Applications must come from the institution and are due February 3, 2021. Humber is taking a coordinated approach to its submissions and any faculty with an idea for a proposal should contact their senior dean to discuss by EOD Thursday, January 14.
