Please join me in welcoming Frank Cappadocia to Humber College as the inaugural Dean, Continuous Professional Learning (CPL). Frank’s first day is Monday, May 3, 2021.
Frank joins Humber from Lakehead University’s Orillia campus where, most recently, he held the position of Associate Vice-President of Administration & Community Engagement. During his 12-year tenure at Lakehead, Frank held several leadership positions including: Associate Vice-Provost, Administrative Services, Assistant Dean Student Affairs, and Project Lead for the Lakehead-Georgian Partnership. Frank’s extensive postsecondary experience includes roles as the inaugural Director of York University’s Centre for Student Community and Leadership Development, General Manager and Chief Administrative Officer of the College Student Alliance and the General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for the Continuing Education Students’ Association of Ryerson University.
Frank is a graduate of Humber’s Diploma in Law and Security Administration program and was President of the Humber Students’ Federation (Lakeshore). Frank completed his undergraduate degree in Sociology at York University and holds a master’s degree in Leadership Studies from Regis University. He is pursuing his MBA in Educational Leadership at the University of Cumbria.
At Humber, Frank will be responsible for driving our CPL (non-postsecondary) strategy in collaboration with our Faculties, Education & Training Solutions (ETS) and other service delivery providers. The CPL strategy will align corporate training, continuing education, professional learning and other programming, helping us to stay at the forefront of responding to labour market demand and making it easier for learners to access the full range of our programming.
Frank will lead and support the finalization of the CPL collaborative framework and implementation through a highly consultative and collaborative approach.
As there will be an emphasis on business development and revenue diversification, Corporate Training and business development services currently in ETS will be moved under Frank’s leadership, effective June 2021. Wanda Buote, Dean, Education & Training Solutions, will continue to lead the growth of the programs within ETS, including the Real Estate Education Program and the recently announced partnership with the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario.
Welcome, Frank!

In 2012, Humber College launched the first-ever Wearing of Kirpan Policy within the post-secondary sector in Canada. Humber respects the rights of those who observe the Sikh religion and wear a kirpan, an article of faith, as a part of their religious beliefs. This policy outlines the College's commitment to accommodating individuals who wear the kirpan on Humber’s campuses.
Regular review of human rights-related policies and procedures ensures that we reflect current legislation changes and strengthen the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion's human rights early intervention and resolution process.
The Centre is inviting community feedback on the revised Wearing of Kirpan Policy attached to this Communiqué message. Please forward your feedback to humanrights@humber.ca by Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion thanks you for helping to build a more inclusive Humber.

Humber has joined the “call to action” in allyship with the Holland Bloorview campaign DEAR EVERYBODY. Holland Bloorview is the leading children’s rehabilitation hospital in Toronto.
This important social justice movement aims to elevate the visibility of kids and youth with disabilities in marketing, communication and advertising.
While the scope is specific to media, Accessible Learning Services with the full endorsement of our Student Success and Engagement division have made a commitment to move this agenda forward and broaden the attention as a community partner as the first post-secondary institution to participate in this initiative highlighting the need to practice true acceptance within the academic landscape.
Persons with disabilities are 6.2 million strong in Canada and represent roughly 10% of Humber’s learners. Despite this, persons with disabilities continue to be an equity deserving voice who are underemployed, experience food and shelter security challenges and continue to remain stigmatized and underrepresented.
Accessible Learning Services matches the communal goal of demanding a shift in mindset around the inclusion of this vital group of individuals necessary to keep society accountable to all its citizens.
This campaign aligns with Humber’s mission through our priorities set out in the Strategic Plan to build healthy campuses and creating accessible education free from barriers and will be cemented as an institutional responsibility through our new Humber Tomorrow objectives.
We invite you to visit the DEAR EVERYBODY website DearEverybody.ca to learn more about this pledge and encourage Humber staff and learners to participate by sharing and signing the #DearEverybody Agreement.
Please stay tuned for future communication about this important project.

Campus flags will be flown at half-mast on April 28.
Let us continue working together to renew our efforts to continually improve health and safety in the workplace.

Following recent provincial and city of Toronto announcements, as well as the continued rollout of vaccinations across Ontario, please see some important updates below.
Toronto Public Health enacts Section 22 Order for Workplaces
Toronto Public Health (TPH) has issued a Section 22 order for workplaces effective Friday, April 23, 2021.
The Order requires the closure of certain workplaces, or portions of workplaces, where five or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 are identified within a 14 calendar-day period and where cases could reasonably have been acquired through infection in the workplace. The workplace closure or partial closure would be in effect for a minimum period of 10 calendar days.
The Humber COVID Reporting Health Team will continue to work with and follow the advice of TPH on any reported cases of COVID-19 on campus and any potential impact on the college. This includes measures to determine if there are any links between cases.
The full TPH announcement can be found here.
Vaccine FAQs
As the COVID-19 vaccination plan continues to roll out across Ontario, we have received questions from staff and students. To help address some of these questions, information has been added to the Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness COVID-19 FAQs for staff, available here. The FAQs on humber.ca/updates also now include vaccine information for students, and is available here.
