As part of the College’s DX Receiving project, we will be building a new one-storey building in the space behind building D at the North Campus. This receiving building will have walk-in fridges and freezers, loading docks, loading areas, and office spaces, serving the Faculty of Business’ culinary programs, as well as other campus services.

Starting Monday, February 24, 2020, a large portion of parking lot 15 will be closed permanently. The portable building DX will also be demolished.

Construction start date Monday, February 24, 2020
Construction completion date Winter 2021

Alternative parking spots have been arranged for staff who currently park in the affected area of parking lot 15. During construction, staff who continue parking in lot 15 will experience some noise and inconveniences – especially during excavation activities. We apologize in advance for disturbances and are working with our contractors to minimize the impact.

For questions related to parking, please contact James Irvine at x5438. For questions related to construction, please contact Robert Parkin at x4829.

Humber Gives and Unlimited logos on a background of pink hearts

Celebrate Heart Month by showing your love for Humber students through a donation to Humber Gives.

To date, hundreds of our very own faculty and staff have made a donation to Humber Gives in support of our students.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity!

For those yet to make a donation, there’s still time to show your Humber love by making a gift online or supporting through payroll deductions.

Every gift, big and small, truly matters and has an impact.

We hope you can join members from the Advancement and Alumni team tomorrow from 11am-2pm in the Staff Lounge for a special lunch to celebrate Valentine’s Day and learn more about Humber Gives and the Unlimited Campaign.

$2 from every meal sold will be donated to Humber Gives.

Look forward to seeing you there!

To the Humber community,

Earlier today, The Hon. Ross Romano, Ontario Minister of Colleges and Universities announced that the provincial government has decided to provide Ontario colleges with the opportunity to offer nursing degrees independently. This is good news for students and for Humber, and we welcome the decision.

The opportunity to offer a standalone nursing degree has been a top advocacy priority of the college for some time. We have engaged in many conversations with government to highlight the benefit of this decision for students and for the health care sector in the province.

Humber has a long history of delivering high-quality nursing education and training health care providers. For almost 20 years, we have had a successful partnership with the University of New Brunswick (UNB) that has enabled us to offer Ontario’s largest collaborative undergraduate nursing program at our North Campus. We have long had a shared understanding that Humber's goal was to offer this program on our own. While we explore this new opportunity to do so, our focus will continue to be on ensuring all Humber-UNB nursing students are prepared for successful careers in the health sector and beyond.

We have the greatest respect for UNB. Our partnership with them is important, as it has supported the development of our internal capacity to deliver a nursing program. We will look for new ways to collaborate and partner with UNB.

We will keep the Humber community updated as we learn more about what will be involved with offering our own Humber nursing undergraduate program. Please contact Jenna Donelson at jenna.donelson@humber.ca if you have any questions.

Humber College continues to monitor the coronavirus situation and the potential impact on our community. Toronto Public Health issued a letter on February 7 with new recommendations to support global containment efforts and limit the spread of the virus. Read the letter here.

Humber is following all respiratory illness protocols and prevention measures already in place. In addition, areas of the College that provide health-related services, including the Health Centres, Dental Centres, the Humber Spa and the Tzu Chi Clinic of Chinese Medicine, have the recommended screening protocols in place.

All classes, campus operations and college activities will continue as scheduled.

Health authorities have stated that there have been seven confirmed cases in Canada to date (February 7). While the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared an international public health emergency, the current risk to Canadians remains low. We maintain ongoing contact with Toronto Public Health and have been advised that there are no additional actions required, and to follow regular respiratory illness protocols and prevention strategies. As we are in the winter flu season, we ask everyone to:

  • wash your hands as frequently as possible,
  • cough or sneeze into your sleeve rather than hands,
  • and stay home if you’re feeling ill.

Soap and hand sanitizer dispensers across campus will be monitored and filled regularly. Flu shots are still available in the Health Centres.

For the most up-to-date information in Ontario, community members are encouraged to visit the Ontario Ministry of Health website.

Humber takes the health and wellbeing of our staff and students seriously. Updates and more information will be provided as we continue to monitor the situation closely. If you have any questions, please contact:

As news of the virus continues to dominate headlines, it is understandable that anxiety is heightened in the community, and this can often result in discrimination and racism. As an institution, we are proud of our diversity and the richness it brings to the classrooms, hallways and boardrooms. We see it as one of our greatest strengths. While coronavirus can be traced to a province in China, it is important not to characterize the coronavirus as being transmitted from any one group. As always, we work to ensure that Humber is a safe place for staff, students and visitors. We must now come together as a community to avoid any hint of xenophobia. Thank you for continuing to uphold our foundational values of equity, diversity and inclusion.

An oversight group comprising representatives from the Academic Division, Communications, Human Resources, Legal and Risk Management, Public Safety, Student Success and Engagement, and the University of Guelph-Humber has been established and will provide weekly updates to the community, or as needed.
