CRN: 50156
Delivery: Online
Dates: October 19 to November 27

Attendance

CPR Level C and Emergency First Aid Training

This course requires the Emergency First Aid and CPR training which, in normal circumstances, would take place at Lakeshore campus. Due to the current restrictive situation, we are unable to offer it on campus yet. However, this is still mandatory to get the training number upon completion of the course. For this reason, you can take the CPR Level C and Emergency First Aid Training with another provider. You can find a list of approved providers of this training at the following link.

Once you have completed your CPR Level C and Emergency First Aid Training, please, send digital copy of your completed CPR Level C/Emergency First Aid certificate to ce-sscs@humber.ca  and we will give you instructions to getting a $60 reimbursement for completing the training elsewhere.

If you already have a valid Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C training certificate, please provide us with a copy via email and we will exempt you from the training day.

Payment

Please note that payment for this course will be required within 48 hours of registration, to avoid late penalties. Payment can be made on humber.ca/myhumber.

Contact to Mariana Costa at mariana.costa@humber.ca for more information about registration and how to get the discount applied to this course (discount not applicable to international students).

The health and well-being of the Humber community continues to be our top priority. In efforts to avoid the spread of COVID-19, Ontario Colleges are offering Part Time Support and Part Time Academic staff access to a paid leave. Part time Support and part time Academic employees who are unable to work remotely and have a legitimate reason to believe they require a COVID-19 test due to possible exposure to the coronavirus have the ability to request up to two (2) days of paid leave in order to get tested.

This temporary measure is in effect until December 31, 2020. The paid leave is subject to approval from the Manager and Occupational Health and allows a part time employee access to paid leave to obtain up to two (2) tests during this period of time. Proof of having received a test is required and an employee may not return to work on campus until they have complied with the Local Health Authority protocols or provided proof of a negative test.

To request this leave, contact your Manager as well as Hiren Patel, Senior Abilities & Accommodation Specialist hiren.patel@humber.ca in Occupational Health & Safety.

Further benefits, if needed, are available through government leave provisions and more information can be found here: https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-application.html

Employment Equity at Humber College

"It is not that individuals in the designated groups are inherently unable to achieve equality on their own, it is that the obstacles in their way are so formidable and self-perpetuating that they cannot be overcome without intervention. It is both intolerable and insensitive if we simply wait and hope that the barriers will disappear with time. Equality in employment will not happen unless we make it happen." - Judge Rosalie Silberman Abella Royal Commission on Equality in Employment, 1985

Humber College is committed to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Employment Equity Act was passed in 1986. Recognizing that "systemic discrimination" was responsible for most of the inequality found in employment, the Abella Royal Commission on Equality in Employment outlined a systemic response and chose the term "Employment Equity" to describe the process.

What is Employment Equity?

Employment Equity is an on-going planning process used by an employer to:

  • identify and eliminate barriers in an organization's employment policies and procedures;
  • put into place positive policies and practices to ensure the effects of systemic barriers are eliminated; and
  • ensure appropriate representation of identified group members throughout their workforce.

What is the goal of Employment Equity?

  • eliminate employment barriers for members of equity-seeking groups: Women, Persons with Disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and Racialized Persons. In addition to these four groups, Humber invites employees to respond to questions pertaining to Gender Diversity and Sexual Orientation;
  • remedy past discrimination in employment opportunities and prevent future barriers;
  • improve access and distribution throughout all occupations and at all levels for members of the identified groups; and
  • foster a climate of equity and inclusion in the organization.

Humber College complies voluntarily with the Employment Equity Act under the Federal Contractors Program.

Please visit the Centre website for more information about Humber’s Employment Equity Program.

Beginning September 2022, Humber College and Sault College are partnering to offer Humber’s Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics. Students can study the program at either Sault College in Sault Ste. Marie or Humber’s North Campus.

The Bachelor of Engineering - Mechatronics will provide students with hands-on experience with industry-standard advanced technology and practical co-operative work placements. Through their studies, learners will gain knowledge and skills in mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.

This partnership builds on the Ministry of Colleges and Universities’ October 2019 announcement enabling Ontario's publicly assisted colleges to offer new post-secondary programs more easily.

Orange Shirt Day Poster

Orange Shirt Day is taking place on Wednesday, September 30. This is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to Residential Schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. Wearing an orange shirt and using the slogan, Every Child Matters, is an affirmation of our commitment to raise awareness of the Residential School experience and to honour the healing journey of Indigenous lives impacted by residential schools.

To show your support on September 30, you can post an image of you in your orange shirt on social media. Please ensure to include the hashtags #OrangeShirtDay and #EveryChildMatters. You can also tag Indigenous Education and Engagement (Facebook: HumberIndigenous, Twitter: HumberIndig, Instagram: HumberIndigenous).

Please also send your orange shirt image to mike.berg@humber.ca as soon as possible so we can add it to our Orange Shirt Day gallery, which will publish on the Indigenous Education and Engagement website on Wednesday.
