Students learn how to build on their diploma to earn an honours degree.

Humber students with a recognized Humber diploma (below) can earn two years’ transfer credit towards their Honours Bachelor of Applied Science in Family and Community Social Services at the University of Guelph-Humber.

Recognized Humber diplomas:

  • Social Service Worker
  • Child and Youth Care/Worker
  • Developmental Services Worker

Students interested in exploring their pathway options should join us for Family and Community Social Services Transfer Applicant webinar. Students can hear from Program Head, Paul Sherman and admission staff about the program, transfer credit, admission requirements and full-time/part-time study options.

SSHRC - Open Research Area (ORA) Call

Open Research Area (ORA): A new call in 2019

Pre-call announcement

SSHRC is excited to announce its collaboration in the 6th Open Research Area (ORA) call alongside three European funding organizations: Agence nationale de la recherche in France; Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft in Germany; and the Economic and Social Research Council in the United Kingdom. The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science is an associate partner.

ORA was created to strengthen international co-operation by funding high quality scientific research projects. The program started as an agreement between research funding agencies in France, Germany, the UK and The Netherlands in 2010.

This pre-call announcement is being issued to allow interested researchers to begin discussions with potential research partners ahead of the formal call for proposals. ORA is due to open in April 2019. The application window for proposals is set to last about three months, with a closing date expected in July 2019.

In this round, proposals need to involve researchers from any three or more participating countries and be integrated across the participating countries. The research should make an original and significant contribution to current scientific knowledge in areas supported by SSHRC.

Stay tuned for the formal call for proposals to be launched on the websites of the participating funding organizations. Details on the previous round can be found online.

The Community Integration through Cooperative Education (CICE) Program's student council is helping to promote World Down Syndrome Awareness Day on Thursday, March 21, 2019.

World Down Syndrome Day is a global awareness day which encourages our friends all over the world to choose their own activities and events to help raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is, what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.

On this day, we enourage everyone to wear their wildest socks to Humber College, and show their support for people with Down syndrome.

Learn how to provide accommodation to individuals and groups for assignments and tests in Blackboard.

In this workshop we will address the following questions:

  • How do I grant an assignment extension?
  • How do I give someone more time to take a test in Blackboard?
  • How do I allow someone to retake a test?
  • How do I allow a student or a group to resubmit an assignment?

Prerequisites: Participants should know how to create assignments and tests in Blackboard. If you would like to learn this prior to attending the workshop please contact the Instructional Support Studio at North (x4744) or Lakeshore (x3288).

Transforming Lives: The Power of Human Rights Education

This 25-panel exhibition aims to raise awareness of the vital role of human rights education in promoting dignity, equality and peace and in preventing human rights violations and abuses. It presents the importance of human rights and human rights education through case studies where human rights education has transformed values, beliefs and attitudes of individuals and groups, leading to positive initiatives to promote human rights in diverse communities in Australia, Burkina Faso, Peru, Portugal and Turkey. It also encourages viewers to take action in their own immediate environment, starting from their own families and communities.

The exhibit was created in 2016 by the Soka Gakkai International, together with HRE 2020, the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning and the Platform for Human Rights Education and Training.
