Humber College joins many Canadians in celebrating National Philanthropy Day® - a special day to recognize the contributions and impact of philanthropy and those involved!

Our donors make it possible to do more for our students, and we are so grateful. This generosity is felt all around campus, and we want to say thank you for continuing to help our students acquire the necessary resources to achieve their academic, career and personal goals. You are making a difference.

Humber College is committed to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Employment Equity Act was passed in 1986. Recognizing that "systemic discrimination" was responsible for most of the inequality found in employment, the Abella Royal Commission on Equality in Employment outlined a systemic response and chose the term "Employment Equity" to describe the process.

Humber voluntarily complies with the Employment Equity Act.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity is re-establishing the Employment Equity Program at Humber.

As part of the Employment Equity Act, we must fulfill the following requirements:

  • collect workforce information;
  • complete a workforce analysis and an achievement report;
  • establish short-term and long-term numerical goals; and
  • make reasonable efforts to ensure that reasonable progress is made towards having full representation of the designated groups within its workforce.

Please visit the Centre website for Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to Humber’s Employment Equity Program.

If you have questions pertaining to Humber's Employment Equity Program, please contact: Bharat Saini at 416.665.6622 x5160 or bharat.saini@humber.ca.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity thanks you for helping to build a more inclusive Humber.

The “Take Our Kids to Work” day is a popular and rewarding program which allows Grade 9 students to shadow a parent, relative or friend, and experience a day in the life of an adult at work. Students get a first-hand look at activities, skills and career choices in today’s workplace, as well as an appreciation of their parents’ work lives.

Safety first! The safety of our young visitors is a top priority. Unless they are in a public area at the College, please ensure that Grade 9 students in work areas are accompanied at all times by an adult who knows how to deal with the specific hazards in that area.

Humber has prepared some guidelines to help parents, supervisors and managers make this learning experience a safe one:

  • Parents and sponsors, please let your manager know well in advance that you will be bringing a student to the workplace, and agree on which areas the student can access and which activities the student will take part in. If your child is participating in Humber’s TOKTW Events, they will be supervised by designated employees.
  • Check out the workplace ahead of time for potential safety issues particularly from a youth perspective. Maintain a high level of housekeeping.

On the day of:

  • Provide students with an orientation that highlights health, safety and security. Tour the workplace and explain the types of hazards and the safety procedures that apply, including those for preventing workplace violence and harassment.
  • Allow students to undertake tasks and experiences in environments that are safe, and ensure that they follow all safety rules.
  • Ensure that students are provided with and that they wear any required personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, footwear).
  • Students must not be allowed to operate motorized equipment or higher risk machinery or equipment.  Accompany or closely supervise them at all times.
  • Encourage students to ask questions, speak about health and safety concerns, and comment on situations they observe throughout the day.

Here’s to an enjoyable learning experience for students and their parents/sponsors!

"My education, experience and connections at Humber College paved the way for my career."

An international education gave me a second chance. After months of no career growth, I decided to apply to Humber College in the Ontario Graduate Certificate for Marketing Management and venture into a new country. My success as a student involved time management and focus. The little things like going to bed early and waking up early, make a huge impact. If I slacked off and didn’t do my homework or go to work, I wouldn’t have been as successful as I am today. Everything has paid off and I now work in advertising at IPG Mediabrands.

The most memorable part of my program was the “salesville” simulation from my Professional Selling class. We were required to compete with our classmates and develop our sales skills by creating a product and selling to hypothetical buyers. My Integrated Marketing Communications professor told me that opportunities are not to be taken lightly. For my internship I was required to take a qualifying exam for an opportunity at IPG Mediabrands. I aced the exam, interned in the SEO department, and grew within the company. The advice my professor told me allowed me to avoid complacency and consciously strive for greatness.

Humber International leads programming designed to support international students with their transition to Humber, both in and out of the classroom. One key set of initiatives is the suite of educational trips made available for students to expose them to different facets of Canadian life. This coming January, the trip planning has been adapted to include more deliberate ways we can support our students’ understanding of Canada, its history, traditions and culture.

The changes made to the trips have begun by establishing learning outcomes for each one. We will also be using methods of reflective practice with each trip. Finally, we have partnered with other organizations on campus (e.g. BASE, the Aboriginal Resource Centre) to be able to offer events that will allow for both domestic and international student participants.

There are a number of different trips on offer. They include an multi-stop exploration of the history of the Underground Railroad in Canada, and a winter camping experience in Killarney Park to teach winter survival skills. We have partnered with St. Lawrence Market to offer an historical tour of the Toronto core, focusing on the architecture and design of the city. We will also be taking students on local service learnings trip, working with an NGO to give back to our communities.

We will be measuring the effectiveness of these trips in ways in which they aid international student transition, networking and integration into campus life.
