Holiday Toy Drive

Once again The Department of Public Safety and Campus Services will be organizing and collecting unwrapped toys for our annual Holiday Toy Drive. This year toys will be donated to CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.

Last year was a huge success! A big thanks goes to the Humber College community. We were able to collect and donate hundreds of toys to several local hospitals and families in the GTA that needed help during the holiday season.

Please bring a new unwrapped toy to the Department of Public Safety at NX101 (North Campus) and the M Building (Lakeshore Campus) by Thursday, December 12, 2019.

You can also drop off the toys at the below locations:

  • North & Lakeshore Residences
  • Marketing Office, LRC6075
  • President’s Office, LRC 6th Floor, Front Desk
  • Gourmet Express, E115

In early September, Hurricane Dorian made landfall causing over $7-billion (USD) of damage. Across the Bahamas, the storm left at least 70,000 people homeless. An estimated 13,000 homes, constituting 45% of the homes on the Abacos and Grand Bahama, suffered severe damage or were completely destroyed.

Boxes for the Bahamas is an initiative facilitated by the BASE Humber with support of the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre that has been running throughout the semester for victims of Hurricane Dorian. The initiative will be coming to an end on December 2, 2019. We are still seeking donations for the following items:

  • First aid kits
  • Deodorant
  • Disposable cups
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Clothing (new/gently used)
  • Baby wipes
  • Sanitary pads
  • Manual air mattress
  • Soap/shampoo, etc.
  • Toothpaste
  • Baby formula
  • Baby bottles

You can drop off items at the following locations:

  • North Campus, LRC 2112
  • Lakeshore, A168

We would like to thank all the staff and students members who have donated so far!

On the latest episode of Humber NEXTcast, available free on Soundcloud and iTunes, we speak with professor Laura Berg about a real-world learning experiential learning project she developed for students in the Professional Writing and Communications program.

“A lot of students have been excited to work with a real client. It wasn't a hard switch. I think you enroll in a college program, in part, to develop more real-life skills...like receiving feedback from a client. Teaching those skills is just as important as teaching the material.”

— Laura Berg

You can listen to the episode here.

NEXTcast is a podcast about teaching and learning at Humber College, created by Humber Press and the Teaching and Learning Support team.

New episodes go up on Soundcloud and iTunes every second week.
