The International Centre is pleased to announce a new mandatory online travel registry system for all Humber students participating in an approved travel activity outside of Ontario. The travel registry replaces the paper “Student Out of Province Travel Activity Form” referred to in Humber’s Out of Province Travel Policy and Procedure. Information collected in the registry allows Humber to monitor student safety, mitigate travel risks, and provide assistance where feasible in cases of out-of-province emergency.

Humber-sanctioned student travel may take a number of forms including (but not limited to):

  • Internship/Work Placement
  • Faculty-Led Trip / Study Tour
  • Semester Abroad
  • A Conference/Competition
  • Academic Summer Program
  • Varsity

Please refer to the Humber Travel Registry Guide for a detailed "step-by-step" on how to complete the online registry. All Humber employees responsible for approving student travel outside of Ontario are required to advise students to complete the mandatory registry at least four weeks prior to travel (where possible).

Humber's online travel registry is made possible thanks to partnership with iCent app, Information Technology Services, and the Registrar’s Office. The International Centre extends tremendous gratitude to all involved in the development and launch.

Please see the research study notice below for information pertaining to a research study that Baking & Pastry Arts Management Professor, Douglas Smith, is conducting over the next few weeks through Yorkville University.  He would greatly appreciate your assistance in providing this information to interested international students who can assist with the project.

Research Study Notice

Under the mentorship of Dr. Darryl Bautista (Yorkville University, University of New Brunswick), Douglas Smith is seeking only international student participants to take part in a study in identifying any barriers that they may face, which could impact their learning success.

He needs to have student volunteer names submitted within two weeks.  Ensuring that our international student community is successful in their learning is a priority in our teaching. Through Doug's studies, he hopes to identify what some of these barriers might be and further to that learn how to manage these barriers effectively.

For further information and for submitting student names, please contact Chef Douglas Smith at douglas.smith@humber.ca or by phone at 416.675.6622 x5175.

There is no obligation to participate if you do not wish after reading the information letter.

Thank you to everyone who has completed Humber’s Employment Equity Questionnaire. The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity appreciates your help in building a more inclusive Humber!

Please Complete Humber’s Employment Equity Questionnaire

Humber College is committed to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Employment Equity Act was passed in 1986. Recognizing that "systemic discrimination" was responsible for most of the inequality found in employment, the Abella Royal Commission on Equality in Employment outlined a systemic response and chose the term "Employment Equity" to describe the process.

To learn more about Humber’s Employment Equity Program (EEP), please visit the Centre website.

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity invites all full-time, part-time, contract and sessional employees to complete the Employment Equity Questionnaire (EEQ). The information that you provide in the Employment Equity Questionnaire will be kept confidential and will only be reported in aggregate form for Employment Equity purposes. In other words, the reported data will not contain any personal identification. Having up-to-date knowledge of our workforce representation will allow the College to identify where underrepresentation exists, and to target its efforts toward removing barriers that may exist in the College’s employment systems.

Please note - the completion of Humber’s Employment Equity Questionnaire is voluntary.

How can I access the Employment Equity Questionnaire?

  • Hard copies of the Employment Equity Questionnaire are being distributed to employee mailboxes. Please return the completed questionnaire using the included addressed envelope.
  • The Employment Equity Questionnaire (PDF) is also attached to this communique (please see below). The Employment Equity Questionnaire (PDF) can also be accessed on the Centre’s website. Please return the completed questionnaire to The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity (5th floor LRC North Campus) or you can scan the completed questionnaire and email to Bharat Saini, Advisor, Human Rights, Equity & Diversity, at bharat.saini@humber.ca.

Please visit the Centre website for Frequently Asked Questions pertaining to the Employment Equity Program.

If you require the Employment Equity Questionnaire in an alternate format, please contact Bharat Saini at 416.665.6622 x5160 or bharat.saini@humber.ca.

Jen McMillen has accepted an exciting new role as Ryerson University's Vice-Provost, Students.

Both at Humber and within the Ontario postsecondary sector, Jen is a well-known champion for students and leader in student affairs. As Humber's Dean of Students, she has been responsible for the vision, planning and implementation of programs and services designed to create a dynamic and supportive learning environment for our diverse student population.

Jen has been responsible for helping to shape a wide range of our student activities, services and supports, including: advising; career services; student engagement; athletics; student housing and residence life; student inclusion and diversity programming; health and wellness; and student communications.

Jen was instrumental in Humber’s decision to become the first public college in Canada to sign on to the Okanagan Charter, and embed a commitment to health and wellness into both our strategic plan and decision-making processes. Jen was also recognized provincially for her role in garnering government support for innovative mental health first aid training, and for supporting its delivery across the Ontario college sector.

An excellent communicator and collaborator, Jen has built genuine relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners and ensured the inclusion of students’ voices. She’s also acted as a media spokesperson for the college and played a key role in issues management. Jen has worked to feature more student-created content on social media and online and led the creation and implementation of the successful We Got You campaign.

Jen will certainly be missed here at Humber and Ryerson will benefit from her experience and passion for student affairs. Jen will be on campus until the end of November. Please join me in congratulating Jen on her new role and in thanking her for her contributions to Humber.

Jason Hunter
Vice-President, Student and Community Engagement
