Ordering & Payment Process Reminders

This year Purchasing and Accounts Payable have seen an increase in the amount of orders and invoices that have had some issues which have been causing significant delays in processing and payment. Below are reminders of best practices:

  • The correct process is:
    1. Receive a quote from the vendors.
    2. Enter a requisition or LVPO and provide the quote number in the description.
      • Please make sure that you are creating the requisition/LVPO to the correct vendor. If you are creating one from an invoice, look on the invoice to see what the “remit to” name is on the invoice.
      • If you are working with a new vendors, please make sure to submit a new vendor request form. Remember to include a copy of the quote, invoice or website so that Purchasing can verify the correct Name for the vendors.
      • If an address needs to be updated, please send the new vendor form with the vendor number, and the updated information on it to purchasing@humber.ca so that we can update the information. Make sure to include a copy of the letter from the vendor, invoice, quote or website for verification purposes.
      • Any new vendor requests and or address changes that are not accompanied by a supporting document will be rejected and returned to the client to gather all required information.
      • If you are requiring us to set up a person, please make sure to include their SIN number.
    3. Once you have received the order, complete the receiving on Banner.
    4. The vendor should be sending the invoices directly to Accounts Payable (send by email to accounts.payable@humber.ca) with the correct Purchase Order number indicated on the invoice.
      • If vendor sends the invoice to you, verify that the correct purchase order number is on the invoice and verify that there is enough money on the purchase order to pay the invoice, and then send it to Accounts Payable.
    5. Payment is net 30 from the invoice date. Please note that cheque runs are every Thursday so cheques will be issued on the first Thursday following the payment due date assuming the receiving has been completed.
  • When sending invoices to Accounts Payable a valid purchase order number MUST be on the invoice.
  • Please verify there is enough money on the purchase order to pay for the invoice.
    • If there is not enough money (or too much money) on the purchase order, please send an email to purchasing@humber.ca and request an increase/decrease to the purchase order.
    • Please include:
      • Purchase order number;
      • The amount you would like to increase the purchase order by before taxes. If there are not taxes on the purchase order, please let us know.
      • If there are multiple lines on the purchase order, please let us know what line item you would like to increase.
  • Please do not send duplicate invoices to Accounts Payable as this causes many issues and may delay payment.

If you have any additional questions, you can visit the Finance website at humber.ca/finance, or you can email purchasing@humber.ca or accounts.payable@humber.ca for assistance.

Have a large purchase to make? Here’s what to do!

Purchasing has created a Procurement Request Form which has been added to the Finance website (humber.ca/finance/forms-procedures). When you have a need for a purchase over $5,000.00, please fill out the form and send it to purchasing@humber.ca. We will assign a buyer, and a document number to for it. The buyer will then draft the document and send it to you (the client) for review and updating. Once the document is finalized it will be sent to the vendors for a competitive bid process.

If you need any assistance, please email purchasing@humber.ca.

JEOFFREY STEVEN BULL

April 7, 1965 – January 2, 2018

Died in Toronto after a short struggle with an aggressive cancer. He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife and very best friend Julia Rhodes and his cherished daughter Charlotte; his dear parents John and Fruji Bull of Ottawa; his brother, Stephen Bull, his wife Louisa and family; and his in-laws, Ned and Liz Rhodes and family.

Jeoff was born in Ottawa where he earned a reputation as a learned fellow at an early age. He completed an Honours BA in English Literature from McGill University followed by an MA and PhD in English Literature from the University of Toronto. He found his calling as a Professor of English and History at Humber College. He was a born teacher.

We all will miss our “village explainer”. He made a point of learning as much as he could about literature, history, politics, sports, music, film and any other topic that was of current interest in the world – even social history, children’s literature and crafting, much to the delight and love of his wife. He happily shared this knowledge with everyone.

Jeoff was a warm, kind, honourable man who was unaware of his huge impact on those around him. He loved a day on the ski slopes, a three-hour sail or an afternoon on his front porch with a book or his guitar.

A celebration of his life will be held on February 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the G Commons at the Lakeshore Campus of Humber College. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Jeoffrey Bull Memorial Scholarship: 416.673.0152, online, or send a cheque, payable to “Humber College”, to Advancement and Alumni, LRC 5th Floor, 205 Humber College Blvd. Toronto ON M9W 5L7.

Maliglutit - Channel 51 Igloolik

Channel 51: Igloolik is an exhibition presented across Humber Galleries’ two locations celebrating 30 years of industry-changing video production coming out of Igloolik, a remote community of 1600 people in Nunavut. Now open at L Space, Channel 51: Igloolik – Chill Zone brings together a reading room and mediathèque with titles from Arnait Video Production and Isuma Video Collective dating back to 1988; and film paraphernalia, artwork, and historical objects from Isuma’s own collection. L Space is outfitted as a cozy space with a screen, couches, and tables where all are invited to take in a film or peruse the literature.

In the words of Guest Curator, Assinajaq (Isabella Weetaluktuk): “At Chill ZoneIsuma’s full retrospective of films is available and ready for you to come in and pick what you’d like to see! The Chill Zone library has a collection of books that Isuma has published over the years. Along the gallery windows three formidable soapstone sculptures that depict significant moments from the film Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner. A wall hanging created for the film Unakuluk frames the library. One of my favourite things about the collection of films in this show is that many topics are touched upon, expected and unexpected. Bring along your curiosity—there’s so much here to explore!”

Challenging stereotypes about ways of life in the North, these boundary-breaking video collectives are still going strong. Arnait and Isuma have shared a vast body of work about contemporary Inuit visual culture with the world. In fact, Isuma will bring their co-created self-determined contributions to the international stage by representing Canada at the 2019 Venice Biennale. This pair of exhibitions presents an opportunity to see what has been accomplished over three decades. Be sure not to miss Channel 51: Igloolik – Atanarjuat, the sister exhibition at North Space on view from March 5 – April 14, 2018, which reveals the making of the internationally renowned film Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner.

This project marks an ongoing partnership and learning process between the Aboriginal Resource Centre and Humber Galleries at Humber College. For more information, please contact alissa.firth-eagland@humber.ca, visit humbergalleries.ca, or find HumberGalleries on social media.

Guest Curator: Asinnajaq (Isabella Weetaluktuk)

Asinnajaq, known also as Isabella Weetaluktuk, is an Inuk visual artist, writer, and curator. She if from Inukjuak, Nunavik and grew up in Montreal. Asinnajaq’s first job was travelling the Inuit Nunangat. During this time she was lucky to take in the immense beauty of places like the Torngat Mountains, Diana Island and the fjords of Baffin Island. This was also an opportunity to see many animals, old food caches, and the site of a Thule whale bone dwelling near Resolute Bay. While looking for her next move Asinnajaq made a storyboard for her father, Jobie Weetaluktuk’s, next film. This small task turned into the Assistant Director position, and the chance to film in Inukjuak, the place where many of Isabella’s aunts, uncles and cousins live. Inspired, Asinnajaq jumped into film school and complete her first film with the National Film Board, titled Three Thousand. Asinnajaq moves to honour the past and create a foundation for the future.

How does it work?

There are two styles of workshops available to choose from:

Peer to Peer | Time Allotment – 1 hour per session

  • Suitable for all class sizes
    • Large class sizes will be broken up into 20ppl (10 pairs) per 1 hour timeslot
  • Student to student practice
  • In two rounds (15 mins each), students take turns being the interviewer and interviewee

Peer-Panel | Time Allotment – 1 hour per session

  • Suitable for all class sizes
    •  Large class sizes will be broken up into 30ppl (10 pairs) per 1 hour timeslot
  • 2:1 ratio, or as determined appropriate by faculty
  • In three rounds (10 mins each), students will experience being an interviewer with another student colleague and an interviewee

Connect with your designated Career and Student Success Advisor to determine which style works best for your course. The Advisors will then provide guidance for faculty in selecting interview questions and help facilitate the mock interview workshop. The Career Centre’s mock interview feedback rubrics are provided.

What will students gain from this new format for mock interviews?

We have already received positive feedback from students who have engaged in this new format for mock interviews. Students’ gain insight into how the interview process works, why employers ask particular questions and build their confidence in their own ability to be successful in an interview process.

The full list of Advisors and the schools they support are included in the attached flyer. Please don’t hesitate to contact your designated Advisor should you have any questions.
