It is with great pleasure that I announce that Dr. Dawn Macaulay, has accepted the position of Acting Associate Dean in the Department of Liberal Studies, in the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, replacing Jason Galea until July 3, 2015. Many of you will already know Dawn from her role as Coordinator in the Department of Liberal Studies, which she assumed in January 2011. In that capacity she has served on numerous College committees including College Council, Degree Council and Academic Appeals and most recently, has been facilitating with our transition to the Banner student system as a Banner PC Champion.
Dawn first joined Humber in 2008 as a faculty member, teaching a variety of psychology courses across all of Humber’s credential levels. Prior to joining Humber, she enjoyed faculty positions at both Douglas College and the University of British Columbia, where she earned her Ph.D. in 1997 examining mood-dependent memory.
On behalf of the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences and the entire Humber community, let me extend my congratulations and say that we look forward to working with Dawn on many exciting initiatives over the coming year.

Andre will work closely with our many campus partners in the delivery of campus security and emergency services and provide oversight and direction to our uniformed security personnel and campus walk students as well as assist and lead a variety of investigations that come through our office. Andre is a committed and caring individual and I know that he will go out of his way to ensure the success of students that he comes into contact with. Andre will report directly to Nancy Deason, Manager of Public Safety - North Campus.

Purpose; The City of Toronto requires the shutdown to address infrastructure repairs adjacent to the Lakeshore East Campus, resulting in temporary water service interruption.
Location: All buildings located at Lakeshore Campus-East (C/D/E/F/H/I/J/K/L/M) will be affected.
Lakeshore West/Residence/HAMS/Annex/Fashion Institute/Medical Building/Humber Launch, will not be affected.
Staff, faculty and students will not be allowed entry into the College facilities (C/D/E/F/H/I/J/K/L/M Buildings) during the temporary water shutdown interruption.

Due to some Steel truss hoisting at the F building construction, the section of Arboretum Blvd indicated on the map below will be closed to vehicle traffic Friday, July 11th, 2014.
Those wanting to access lot 13, 14 and 15 will be required to use entrance E.
Anyone requiring access to lot 1, 2, 3, the W Daycare or the Daycare currently in LX 110 are required to use entrance A.
The Humber International Centre hosted the annual Humber International Graduate Reception on June 12, 2014 at the Humber Room, Humber College North Campus. The event was organized specially for the international students’ class of 2013-14, and international alumni.
The International Centre would like to thank everyone who attended and we hope this annual event acts as a catalyst for new and meaningful connections for our most recent alumni.

As a result of a competitive process, Sodexo Canada has been awarded the North and Lakeshore cleaning contracts as of July 2nd 2014. Facilities Management is aware of issues with service delivery which occurred last week during transition between service providers, and are actively working through resolution.
During the next 4 weeks, you may notice changes to cleaning schedules and service levels as Sodexo Management implements modifications designed to improve overall cleaning standards at the College. Your patience with this process is greatly appreciated. Please be assured that the transition is being carefully monitored by the Facilities Management department.
In order for us to monitor service delivery and area requirements well, please place all service requests via our online work order system located at facilities.humber.ca.

Oh-Harai-Taisai (Shinto)
As an act of inner purification for sins and offenses during the first half of the year, Japanese worshippers walk through a large ring of woven grasses and reeds at the entrance to shrines as part of the Great Purification Festival. The ceremony is usually celebrated in July and occurs twice a year (and can be on June 30 and December 31). Inside each shrine, a vessel of water is used for ritual ablutions that include rinsing the hands and mouth (called ohairai) to restore internal balance to the body before approaching the kami (nature spirits).
I am pleased to announce Carl Oliver as the successful candidate for the Director, School of Continuing & Professional Development in the School of Applied Technology.
Carl has worked at Humber ITAL for twelve years as a Professor in the School of Applied Technology, teaching in several programs including Wireless, Computer Engineering and Networking. During his time at Humber, he has been Program Coordinator, Chair of the Humber Showcase Planning Committee, and Secondee in the Centre for Teaching and Learning.
Carl served for several years on the Student Success and Engagement coordinating committee and has recently built and facilitated Communities of Practice across the School of Applied Technology. He is passionate about teaching and the use of innovative technologies in the classroom. Carl’s most recent labour of love has been working with multitalented colleagues across the college to create and pilot the Humber “Lightboard,” an innovative, multi-media teaching tool (enabling the flipped classroom to come to life) that is the first of its kind in Canada.
Carl holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics and Philosophy) from the University of Toronto, a Postgraduate Certificate in Wireless Telecommunications from Humber, and a Master of Arts in Education from Central Michigan University.

HR Services is pleased to announce Noreen Gomes as the successful candidate for the HR Office Manager position. In her new role, she will provide administrative leadership to the Vice-President, Human Resources and assist the HR Services departmental management team.
Since joining Humber College in 2008, Noreen has held the position of Project/Administrative Assistant in the Registrar’s Office and most recently the position of HR coordinator in the HR Services department. Over the past 6 years, Noreen has developed an exceptional understanding of the College as well as Human Resources practices and policies. Noreen has demonstrated her ability to provide outstanding customer service and her exceptional organizational, time management and research skills.
Noreen completed her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Guelph-Humber and more recently completed her Human Resources Certificate from Humber College.
Noreen is excited to begin her new role and continue to provide exemplary support to our department.
