Various sessions with dates and times for Humber Mindful Mondays Series

The Mindfulness Mondays series is back in an effort to have continued engagement and promote health and wellness activities. This concept is an eight-week virtual one-hour series starting from October 4 to November 29, 2021 (excluding Thanksgiving Day), where every Monday, a workshop will be hosted from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

These sessions will include mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and sound bath meditation activities consecutively. This series will be open to all employees, students, and the community.

Facilitator bio:

Dr. Raven Sinclair Ph.D.

Dr. Raven Sinclair is Nehiyaw, Saulteaux, and Métis from George Gordon First Nation in Treaty 4, Saskatchewan. She is a Professor of Social Work at the University of Regina, Saskatoon Campus. She is considered one of Canada’s foremost experts on the Sixties Scoop.

Dr. Sinclair is an author, filmmaker, researcher, and public speaker. She facilitates workshops on communication, lateral violence intervention, and cultural competency. She is a member of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research College of Reviewers, the Waakebiness-Bryce Institute of Indigenous Health Research, and she served as a federal court appointed Advisor to the Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation Interim board.

Join Jenna MacKay in a conversation about how gender-based violence shows up in the 2SLGBTQ+ community and why it is difficult to navigate, ways traumatic stress may be uniquely experienced by 2SLGBTQ+ people, and ways people can support 2SLGBTQ+ survivors.

About Jenna MacKay

Jenna (she/her) holds a Master of Arts in applied Psychology and a Master of Social Work. She works in private practice as a registered social worker in Belleville, with a focus on trauma and providing 2SLGBTQ+ affirming support. She has over 13 years of diverse research experience in academic, non-profit, hospital and government contexts. Her work has focused on trauma, mental health, gender and sexuality, and service access. Most recently she worked as a Research Associate with the Dalla Lana School of Public Health of University of Toronto on a Public Health Agency of Canada funded project to develop, implement and pilot curriculum to increase the capacity of service providers in Ontario working with 2SLGBTQ+ folks from a trauma-informed lens.

Peer-Led Wellness Groups

Launching next week, we are pleased to be able to offer a new student-focussed wellness support resource hosted by Humber College post-graduate students enrolled in the Wellness Coaching Program in partnership with IGNITE and Student Wellness & Equitable Learning.

Peer-Led Wellness Groups will be running once a week from October 15 to December 14. Each week, a new topic will be addressed in a 40-minute group designed to generate peer-led discussion amongst students as it concerns various wellness topics.

Consent Peer Education Program

The Consent Peer Education Program is thrilled to bring back Cayla Meredith, founder of the Move to Heal Project and a trauma-sensitive yoga facilitator, for a series of bi-weekly virtual yoga sessions throughout the fall semester! Cayla's classes emphasize trauma awareness, non-coercion, and accessibility in language and action.

Be Your Own Boss Program

Be Your Own Boss is a seven-week workshop series on ideation, marketing, promotions, sales, finance, funding and operations. Certification of completion and CCR accreditation will be available to all participants who attend a minimum of five out of the seven workshops per cohort. Jim Skinner will also provide drop-in mentorship support to those enrolled in this training program.

These sessions will take part over Zoom as well as have some pre-recorded sessions. 

Sessions start on Tuesday, November 2 at 6 p.m. and occur every Tuesday.
