IEW has been celebrated globally since 2000, showcasing the impact that international education has in preparing students for the world, promoting the benefits of study abroad, and supporting international engagement efforts. It is a week to recognize the contributions of our international students and their efforts in strengthening international and cross-cultural understanding.

There will be several activities taking place each day at different time zones to allow the participation of both offshore and in-Canada Humber community members.

Join the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, Humber FYE, and Seneca as we recognize Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20 from 1 to 2 p.m. on Zoom (the link will be sent to attendees prior to the event).

Register here

We gather on the Transgender Day of Remembrance to honour those who have been lost as a result of anti-transgender violence, and bring attention to the continued violence endured by the trans community.

The keynote speaker for this event is Joan Rupram. Joan is an Indo-Caribbean femme immigrant and descendent of Indian indentureship of Guyana; identifying as Caribbean, Indian, South Asian, and Indo fluidly. They have an eclectic background in social justice, political science, experiential learning and spiritual evolution that is channeled into mentoring leaders to build intentional communities with radical accountability. Joan's work centers the reclamation of our ancestral lineage and indigenousness as Black and Brown Indigenous Bodies of color to decenter whiteness in all areas of life. They are a healer, mentor and educator focused on ushering wellness as the foundation of sustainable leadership. The focus of their practice is to connect the personal is political is spiritual, drawing on nuances and connecting lived experiences to broader social systems. Bridging the gap between the spiritual and the practical, Joan's mission is to build the inner calibre of social change doers and new school thought leaders to be and build the change they seek in today's world and changing social and economic climate; so they can embody their leadership, lead their greatness and reclaim their self-mastery.

This event is open to everyone- students, staff, faculty, 2SLGBTQ+ folks and allies.

As a supportive measure, we want to provide two spirit, transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer students with an online gift card of their choice to take care of themselves through grief, celebration, and self-care. You can utilize this in whatever way brings you comfort and joy. To access this gift card please select fill out the Google form located here.

Following this event there will be an opportunity for 2SLGBTQ folks to attend a virtual drop-in with the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre staff.

Humber’s Office of Sustainability is hosting a virtual screening of the film 2040 on November 12.

About the film:

The 2040 journey began with award-winning director Damon Gameau (That Sugar Film). Motivated by concerns about the planet his 4-year-old daughter would inherit, Damon embarked on a global journey to meet innovators and changemakers in the areas of economics, technology, civil society, agriculture, education and sustainability. Drawing on their expertise, he sought to identify the best solutions, available to us now, that would help improve the health of our planet and the societies that operate within it. From marine permaculture to decentralised renewable energy projects, he discovered that people all over the world are taking matters into their own hands.
