Outcomes based learning ensures consistency, transparency, and rigor in the learning process. Learning outcomes act as a guide for educators and learners and indicate what the learners will know and do by the end of a specified course or program. They are meant to align teaching materials and assessments. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of outcomes based learning and practice aligning curriculum to meet the needs of diverse learners. Please bring a course outline from a course you teach to apply the principles.

How can technological innovation be used as a tool for marginalized communities to achieve greater social justice? Drawing upon his personal experience and his professional practice as a criminal defence lawyer, Mr. Levien will identify issues inherent in the criminal justice system and explore methods to improve the relationship between police and communities of colour. He will recount how he used a validated learning approach to develop a mobile application to educate and empower the Canadian public. Finally, he will discuss how a similar approach might be used by others to address complex problems of social justice.
