The HIVES classrooms at Humber integrate meaningful technology to enhance learning, promote student engagement, and collaboration. Faculty teaching in rooms F305-F314 and F421-F423 (North Campus) are invited to drop in, explore and learn how to deliver instruction in these innovative spaces. Resources for teaching in the HIVES will be provided.

Note: Faculty that plan to use a laptop or tablet while teaching in the HIVES are encouraged to bring it to the drop-in session.

New Part-time Faculty are encouraged to attend this one hour introductory workshop on Bb 9.1. Learn the basics of Bb 9.1 and find out how this new product can enhance your classroom. Participants will discover how to upload the Humber Template and documents, and will be introduced to basic communication tools.

Dear registrant for the Introduction to Blackboard Workshop:

  • Make sure you can access Blackboard.
  • If your ID or Password does not work, you will need to go to IT with photo ID and get them to do a reset. North Campus: NX 210, Lakeshore Campus: A212.
  • Be sure you have a course to work with in Blackboard.  This could be a live site or better yet a DEV site or SANDBOX.  Both a DEV site and Sandbox can be requested using the appropriate e-forms at its.humber.ca.  Please note that this request can take up to 24 hours to be processed. 

If you do not have access to Blackboard AND a site to work in you will not be able to actively participate in the workshop.

This orientation designed for new faculty outlines necessary information to prepare and deliver courses at Humber.

Note: Session One and Session Two cover different content. Participants can register for one or both of the sessions. Please register separately for each session. 

Session One

This session includes an overview of Humber College’s student population, teaching and learning services, and resources for faculty and students. Participants will also share strategies for preparing for the first day of class. All attendees will receive an information package that includes the faculty handbook, campus maps, student code of conduct, and important contact information.

This session will provide an introductory overview on how to represent textual data in a visual context to help others better understand its significance or value. Participants will learn tips and tricks on data visualization using Microsoft Excel. Topics to be discussed include arranging data for optimal chart creation, when to use each chart type, examples of good and bad data visualizations, and an introduction to intermediate and advanced chart templates (ex. Histogram, Stacked Bar, Combo, and Sunburst).
