Humber, IGNITE and Feed It Forward are launching Soupbar, an on-campus pay-what-you-can soup bar to address the pressing issue of food insecurity faced by many Humber students each year.

Students will get to try Soupbar for the first time at the grand opening on:

Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11 a.m.
North Campus, Café LinX (LX110)

The Soupbar will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Humber’s School of Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism, Humber Campus Services, IGNITE and Feed It Forward partnered to bring the concept of “Feed it Forward” to life within the Humber community. The mission is to alleviate student hunger on-campus and the objective of the program is to provide nutritious meals to any student who needs food. This is accomplished by redirecting unconsumed food not intended for resale to create delicious meals. Soupbar will help feed students and reduce food waste across campus.

The launch event will include remarks and a ribbon-cutting by Chef Jagger Gordon, Founder, Feed it Forward; Monica Khosla, President, IGNITE; and Jason Hunter, Humber’s Vice-President, Student & Community Engagement.

Inclusive Curricular Design encompasses the key elements of multiple teaching and learning approaches to offer a robust and accessible learning experience for all students. The principles of inclusive curricular design focus on a proactive rather than reactive approach to course design and are founded in equity, collaboration, flexibility and accountability. This Certificate addresses the idea that students are not meant to fit into a traditional “one size fits all” model of education and that applying the principles of inclusive design will ensure that the range of student diversities, abilities, and needs arebeing met through a number of teaching and learning strategies.

The Certificate is comprised of eight 3-hour learning modules, a coaching session, and a final application activity. Upon successful completion of these components, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.

This Certificate has been accredited by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) - Educational Developers Caucus (EDC) of Canada to ensure quality in teaching and learning. For more information, please visit EDC Accreditation information.

The Office of Sustainability is having multiple drop-in events this week in honour of Fairtrade Campus Week!

What is Fairtrade?

By buying Fairtrade products, you are ensuring that the farmers who make the products can make their own decisions, control their futures and the environment they live and work on, and lead a happy, dignified life. Read more about what Fairtrade means here.

Join us for a week of fun activities to educate the importance of and support Fairtrade products. Did you know that Lakeshore Campus is Fairtrade Campus certified and the North Campus is working towards this designation right now?

Make sure to follow @SustainHumber on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We’ll be live-tweeting during ‘Find the Cart’ so you’ll know where exactly to find us!

*For ‘Find the Cart,’ please bring a reusable mug. Take a picture with your mug and share it on social media with the hashtag #HumberStaffSupportsFairtrade for a chance to win Fairtrade coffee, tea, hot chocolate and chocolate bars generously donated by Kicking Horse and Divine Chocolate.

See you there!
