The Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre is pleased to invite you to the launch of a deeply evocative collection of painted dreams by Susan Schellenberg. A former nurse, wife, mother of five, and patient at the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital, Susan explored her mental illness through the life history revealed within her dreams. The U.S. has seen a three-fold increase in mass homicides over the past 15 years. It is the only type of homicide on the rise, defying much of the sociological and psychological research on the subject due to its unique motive: fame. Only mass media and social media can grant shooters this dying wish and confirm to other isolated, depressed and narcissistic men that their names and faces will be remembered. In this lecture, Dr. Johnston will discuss concrete actions that can be taken by media, researchers and citizens to turn back the rising tide of mass shootings.
