Do you know a student that would benefit from participating in an APA workshop?

We're excited to inform you about our upcoming workshop tailored to enhance academic writing skills, "APA Essentials: Mastering the Art of Academic Writing." In response to valuable feedback from our mature students in our focus group and surveys, the Office of the Dean of Students has collaborated with Humber Libraries, and the Math & Writing Centre to create a dynamic session covering core components of the APA style.

This workshop isn't just for those new to APA; it caters to anyone looking to refine their skills.

We've crafted it based on the specific needs highlighted by our mature students, aiming to provide comprehensive academic support.

What sets this event apart? It's designed with inclusivity in mind – while inspired by mature learners, all students are welcome to benefit from this universal learning experience.

Please share this exciting opportunity with your students and encourage them to register. Reach out to Project Coordinator Meshanda Phillips at meshanda.phillips@humber.ca for any questions or concerns.

Let's empower our students to excel in their academic journey!

In this session, Ajay will share lessons learned from other CBE-leading institutions and offer the latest updates on current FHSW-CBE pilot projects. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of CBE's key concepts and best practices, enabling them to start the process of implementing these strategies in their own teaching and learning environments. The session will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, so remember to BYOL (bring your own lunch).

Earlier this week the Canadian government announced a temporary two-year cap on international student study permits.

Current international students already studying at Humber with an approved study permit, are not impacted by this announcement. International students approved to study at Humber remain eligible to apply for work permits after they have completed their studies.

A virtual workshop will be held for international students to further explain this announcement. It will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. EST. Students can join here.

International students are an important part of the Humber community, and we understand that this news may be concerning. If international students need support, they may reach out to us through our international student contact form.

Humber Music Presents Big Band Night featuring the dazzling Humber College Jazz Big Band and the Manouche Jazz Ensemble.

There is nothing quite like the electrifying sizzle of the Jazz Big Band to transport the listener to the heart of swing! Humber's 18-piece Big Band with vocalists Domonique Wade and Ephraim Hildebrand will explore the great lexicon of American jazz that dominated New York for the first half of the Twentieth Century. The program also ventures into works by Canadian composers and arrangers, including Humber student Simon Williams. The ensemble is directed by seasoned composer, arranger and bassist, Shelly Berger, and will play a number of this longtime-faculty-member's original compositions and arrangements.

The Manouche Jazz Ensemble will kick off the evening of music from the era of 1930–1950, and the jazz stylings of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli. Often characterised by a fast-paced virtuosity and evocative of the Eastern European folk music of the Roma, the group features the multi-talented Audrey Vandendriesschen on Voice and Violin, joined by Matthew Moniz and Callum Clarke on guitars and Fabio Kutnowski on acoustic bass. The ensemble is directed by Humber faculty member Aline Homzy, a formidable jazz violinist and composer.

These Humber students display fabulous talent and shine in these professional-level ensembles. You won’t want to miss this evening!
