To mark the fourth anniversary of cannabis legalization in Canada, we invite you to attend our hybrid event, Innovations in Harm Reduction for Youth Cannabis Use. We will showcase Canadian cannabis research and education projects designed for and with youth. Five lightning presentations will share new developments in harm reduction, youth-led approaches, and how to be inclusive of the diverse needs of youth who use cannabis. This event will bring together youth experts, advocates, community organizations, and researchers from across the country. Come hear about what’s new and what’s next in youth cannabis use harm reduction!

The event will take place in-person at Humber College's Lakeshore Campus, and will also be simulcast online. Light refreshments will be served.

Sign up for the in-person session. To register to attend online, please email Kulwinder Kaur, an RA on our project.

Hosted by: Dr. Daniel Bear (Humber College), Dr. Rebecca Haines-Saah (University of Calgary), and Dr. Emily Jenkins (University of British Columbia), in partnership with the Humber Centre for Social Innovation.

Student writing on a notepad

Did you know that more than half of Humber’s student population show up at our doorsteps with some previous college, university, or life/work experience?

Humber would like to recognize our transfer and mature students' hard work, sacrifices, and the tenacity it takes to be an adult learner in a post-secondary institution while juggling work, family, and other day-to-day obligations.

From October 17 to 21, the Student Mobility and Pathways office will be hosting its second annual Transfer Student Week festivities.

This year, nine campus partners are also taking part, making this event even more special.

Highlights of the week include:

  • Transfer Student Athletic Social Night (Faculty and staff are encouraged to attend and cheer on our volleyball teams as they take on Durham College)
  • A tour and a spider planting session at the Arboretum
  • Free coffee for participants from Gourmet Express
  • Discounts and more from the Humber Spa and Humber Campus Bookstore

By attending sessions over the course of the week and by sharing their #Humberishome stories, students will be entered into draws to win a variety of gift cards.

So next week, while in person, in virtual meetings, or on social, we ask that you give our transfer students the recognition they deserve.

President's Lecture Series: Dr. Charmaine Nelson

Canadian participation in Transatlantic Slavery under the French and British Empires, despite being widespread, is little known both inside and outside of Canada. What replaces slavery in the national imagination are celebratory narratives of the Underground Railroad, which cast Canadians as the liberators of enslaved African-Americans. Meanwhile, the 200-year history of Canadian Slavery has been profoundly neglected. Within this institution, only Black Africans were always deemed fit for enslavement. Therefore, Canada – like other Western nations – was founded on anti-Black racism. In this lecture, Dr. Charmaine Nelson will present historical manuscripts, printed materials, and visual art to explore the colonial nature of the archive and the historical documentation that was strategically used to dehumanize the enslaved.

Join the livesteam on October 13 at 1 p.m.
