COWD has a mandate to support access to post-secondary, training and the workforce for those who are under-represented in these areas, including, but not limited to, newcomers, women, racialized persons, Indigenous Peoples, and youth.
COWD seeks to do this through collaborative partnerships with faculty & departments, industry, and community stakeholders on a variety of projects, initiatives, programs and services using an assets-based community development (ABCD) approach. Program participants are valued for the assets they are able to contribute as they seek to further build their skills and knowledge. Taking an ABCD approach ensures that all stakeholders are able to contribute and benefit from the collaboration, with the ultimate goal of enhancing local social and economic development.
