President’s Awards 2020 Recipients | Administrative Distinguished Service Award

Lindsay Walker Capital Development and Facilities

“Lindsay takes a holistic approach when sharing her perspective and when supporting others. She looks at the whole situation and at the whole person.”

Susan Miller, Associate Director, Campus Services

Lindsay turned sustainability into something tangible, that touches every area of Humber. The efforts embrace the social and economic issues as much as the environmental ones.

Lindsay began her career with Humber in 2012. The Office of Sustainability was a small but mighty, one-person team with an exhaustive ‘to-do’ list. Lindsay continues to exemplify Humber values throughout her work, which has led the Office of Sustainability to grow into a ‘team” and allow Humber to strive to become a national leader in developing sustainable campuses.

Lindsay’s courage is evident in her diplomatic, yet unwavering in her drive to move the college towards more sustainable practices. She challenges the status quo, thinks quickly on her feet and is always open to learning from others with the ability to admit when she does not know something. She excels in her ability to help individuals and groups to reconsider their mindsets to collectively do better for our community and the environment.

Aman Hehar (Energy Efficiency Manager) points out, “ Lindsay has an impossible task of trying to keep everyone happy. Some folks can be hesitant to change, think we are doing too much too soon, and some think we should be doing more. She must show tremendous leadership in navigating these viewpoints, educate, find compromises and continue to push the sustainability agenda forward. It’s a thankless job in many ways and we are so lucky to have someone so passionate about the topic that can overcome all the challenges” .

Humber’s culture and mission are indeed strengthened by the positive ways in which Lindsay role models each one of the Humber values.
