“It is the demonstration of an unwavering commitment to making the world a more honest, equitable, accepting, and supportive place, despite the toll that equity work can take on those who champion it. The Equity & Student Life Team in SSE embodies these characteristics in more than just their job descriptions.”

Dimple Rai, Student Success & Engagement

In the last year, the Equity and Student Life team have revolutionized equity work and programming on our campus through various campaigns, events, and contributions to education and leadership for staff, students, and faculty alike. The accomplishments of this team speak clearly to Humber’s mission vision and values, and touch on all pillars of Humber’s 2018-2023 strategic plan.

They have taken the lead on several campus-wide initiatives that centre the importance of, and value for EDIAB at Humber College such as Black Heritage Month and Pride Month. Equity work cannot be done in silos, and this team has demonstrated their ability and commitment to partnering with others on campus to enhance and embed equity in all areas of Humber, including the Libraries, Indigenous Education and Engagement, Student Learning Services, Advising and Career Services as well as numerous faculty members.

Equity work is not without its challenges, and it is critical to acknowledge the support that this team has provided for students, staff, and faculty on our campuses after the tragic campus, local, and international incidents of violence and anti-black racism or homophobia that have happened. This is in addition to their representation in important campus-wide committees and Employee Resource Groups to enact change and build community.
