SPARK #8 is pleased to be shining the spotlight on Humber’s social innovation project, “Experiences of hope, self-compassion and authentic collaboration: Foundations for a consumer-informed compassion-based human services delivery framework in a Canadian context.”

The research project aims to foster social innovation to address community needs. It provides a pathway to establish the key principles necessary to develop a much-needed consumer-informed, compassion-based human services framework that strengthens the responsiveness of human service delivery in accordance with the aspirations and preferences of Canadian consumers to enhance consumers’ abilities to lead self-directed lives.

The project is led by Tina Lackner and Cristina Alexandra Guerrero, PhD, professors in Humber’s Faculty of Social & Community Services.

To learn more about this social innovation project, read the article “Experiences of hope, self-compassion and authentic collaboration: Foundations for a consumer-informed compassion-based human services delivery framework in a Canadian context” in SPARK Issue #8.

Accessible Learning Services shares some best practices considerations:

  • Accessible Learning Services (ALS) Best Practice Considerations posted in the Communiqué focus on equipping faculty to better support students with disabilities. To every extent possible, ALS encourages students to be actively involved in the accommodation process.

  • For example, students with disabilities connected with ALS are responsible for renewing their Accommodation Letter each semester.

  • Students are required to contact faculty to request accommodations in advance of a test and/or in advance of an assignment due date to request an extension.

  • We encourage faculty to actively dialogue with students regarding accommodation requests.

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about accommodating students with disabilities.

Please email us at accessible-learning@humber.ca with suggestions for key accessibility-related topics that you would like us to address through the Communiqué.

Please note that the International Centre at the Lakeshore Campus has had a temporary location change; we are unsure of the duration of this adjustment.

Effective Monday, November 6, we will support in-person students from D205 (as well as via our usual virtual platforms).

At this time, appointments with the International Student Advisors (our immigration experts) at Lakeshore will be done via return phone call until we can secure an appropriate, confidential meeting space for the advising to take place.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Members of the Lakeshore Admissions team (who process international applications) will be temporarily housed in the Office of the Registrar.
