Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber (Humber) are committed to providing an accessible learning, working, and living environment for the Humber community. In creating such a community, Humber aims to foster a climate of understanding and mutual respect for the dignity and worth of all persons.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) in 1992. It is an international, annual observance intended to promote understanding of disability issues and the importance of the dignity, rights, well-being, and integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of life.

The UN’s theme for this year is “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world“.

Humber supports and facilitates the accommodation of individuals, students and staff, with disabilities. Accommodations ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to all the opportunities that Humber offers. Humber will work to eliminate or minimize the adverse effects of all forms of barriers.

Humber is committed to supporting the goals of the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Humber’s policies, practices and procedures which are consistent with the accessibility standards established under the AODA, to identify, remove and prevent barriers to people with disabilities. For example, the Accessibility Policy and Human Rights Policy. The goal is to become a barrier-free environment in Humber’s activities including the learning, working and living environment.

Achieving the above stated goals depends on the participation of each member of the Humber community including students, faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers, and guests. Each of these parties has a role in creating an equitable and inclusive environment, as well as in the accommodation process and the identification, removal, and/or reduction of barriers. The consultative relationship among members of the Humber community is based upon a shared desire for an open, supportive learning, working, and living environment and a shared respect for individual rights and dignity.

I am pleased to announce that Mona Nouroozifar, associate dean of Mathematics, Research Skills and Analysis, has successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "Gender-Differentiated Motivation and Academic Self-Concept as Predictors of Student Retention among Community College Students.”

Dr. Nouroozifar’s thesis was submitted in conformity with the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the Faculty of Business, Education, Law & Arts at the University of Southern Queensland. 

Mona’s passion is student success and retention. Most recently she published an OER book entitled Post-Secondary Education Student Mental Health: A Global Perspective. Through both this publication and her doctoral work, Mona has exemplified the student-centred approach critical to supporting students as they navigate the challenges and complexities of post-secondary education.

Please join me in congratulating Mona on these accomplishments.

Please note that e-waste collection is not for Humber equipment, and is only for personal equipment.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Giving Tuesday initiative.

Our faculty and staff came through once again with their generosity to support Humber’s 55 extended society care students through our new bursary program. And their gifts were matched to make twice the difference in the lives of these students.

The Centre for Innovation in Health and Wellness (CIHW), in collaboration with SWEL and HROE, is excited to continue the Mindfulness@Humber series. Studies show mindfulness helps to reduce stress and anxiety, and we are proud to offer this initiative to help support a healthy and inclusive community at Humber.

Mindfulness@Humber offers virtual and in-person guided mindfulness meditation sessions to all members of the Humber community (staff, faculty and students) throughout the semester. Participants can register into any session(s) and choose the format that works best for them.

Virtual sessions offered through Microsoft Teams (20 minutes):

  • Mondays: December 5 & 12 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Thursdays: December 1 & 8 at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. & December 15 at 12 p.m.
  • Fridays: December 2, 9 & 16 at 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.

In-person sessions (North Campus, LRC 2112 - 30 minutes):

  • Wednesdays: December 7 at 9 a.m. & 12 p.m., December 14 at 12:30 p.m.

Hire a Research Analyst Student this Spring banner

Do you have a research project that needs to be completed during the spring term? Are you looking for someone who can assist you with:

  • Data collection, research design, information retrieval, and survey design
  • Designing and implementing research projects for international or domestic populations
  • Qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis and interpretation
  • Project management, proposal writing, and literature reviews
  • Students are knowledgable with SPSS, Excel, and data visualization tools

Our highly qualified research analyst graduate students are available full-time, for 12-weeks from early May to July (flexible end and start dates) to assist you with your project.

*Project hours are used for Work-Integrated Learning (placement course).

In early December 2021, Humber officially launched a group for employees who identify as white and/or as having white skin privilege to examine how they have been conditioned by their whiteness and how it shows up in their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, and within their institutions (home, work, educational, religious, etc.). The Unlearning Circle: Humber employees dismantling whiteness focuses on unpacking and dismantling white supremacy culture and unlearning it.

Fall 2022 SFQs (Student Feedback Questionnaires) have now fully launched in Blackboard.

Reminder for instructors - please be sure to add the SFQ LTI to your course in three quick steps:

  1. Select "Books & Tools" in the lefthand menu from within your Bb course
  2. Click the "+" next to "Student Feedback Questionnaire"
  3. Make the "Student Feedback Questionnaire" visible for students in Course Content

SFQ reports will go out to instructors at the start of the winter semester.
