Starting September 20 at 12:10 p.m. and running for the whole semester, the Centre for Healthy Living (CHL) will be offering a 30-minute walking group every Thursday.  We will be meeting at the CHL office at A107 and venturing out into the Humber Arboretum, around the campus and beyond for a walk that will cater to all levels. Lead by various members of CHL team, we will walk at various paces to include everyone. Wear comfy shoes and bring a water bottle to this fun movement break in your day.

Do you know of anyone who is getting married or having a celebration next April? If they need a tiered cake, a sweet table, a sugar or chocolate showpiece, our post-graduate students in the Advanced Chocolate and Confectionery program are looking for clients. The students will meet with you to design, plan and execute the cake of your dreams for the cost of ingredients only. The timeframe in which the items will be delivered must be between April 1 and 30.

We have recently launched the Application Based Scholarships on MyHumber for our students. These particular scholarships are all funded by donors and special event fundraising efforts. Each scholarship has specific criteria that can be program specific or school specific.

All scholarships are listed on MyHumber where students will need to apply for them.

The Office of Sustainability has published its 2017/18 Sustainability Report.

Some highlights/achievements include:

  • In 2017, Humber College was named of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the third year in a row
  • Humber was awarded Smart Commute’s (a program of Metrolinx) GOLD Workplace for the third year in a row
  • Smart Commute also recognized Humber as the 2017 Employer of the Year Award for the City of Toronto and Region wide
  • Lakeshore campus was the first college in Ontario to receive Fairtrade Campus designation

I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah-Jane Greenway as acting associate dean of the School of Creative and Performing Arts for the fall 2018 semester.

Sarah-Jane is an accomplished postsecondary administrator and a long-time champion of the School of Creative and Performing Arts. Since 2003, she has held a variety of management roles at Humber, including Manager, Student Recruitment; Associate Registrar - Lakeshore Campus, and Manager of Lakeshore Operations. She has profound institutional knowledge of recruitment, admissions, records, registration, and fees, and is committed to student success and engagement.

Most recently, Sarah-Jane was a program review consultant in PPDR, where she shepherded program reviews, degree consent renewals, program mapping and curriculum changes. She combines an understanding of College and Ministry quality assurance processes and best practices with knowledge of Creative and Performing Arts curriculum and the unique needs of its programs.

Sarah-Jane holds a Masters of Education in Post-Secondary Studies from Memorial University.

Please join me in welcoming Sarah-Jane to her new position.

TT: Enabling the Digital SFQ in Blackboard 

Are you currently part of the Digital SFQ rollout? If so, enabling the SFQ tool in your Blackboard environment/course site is a critical step in encouraging your students to fill out the SFQ and increasing your student response rates. Enabling the tool is easy to do and combining tool availability with well-timed Blackboard announcements and reminders is an effective way of deploying the Digital SFQ. In addition to the scheduled workshop times below, faculty can drop in anytime during Studio hours to receive one-on-one support when it comes to enabling the Blackboard SFQ tool and any other Blackboard related support queries.

GLOBAL CHALLENGE

Mini Challenge 1 – The POWER OF SEVEN

Introducing the first Mini Challenge, “The Power of Seven.”  If your team takes at least 100,000 steps (collectively) on September 13, 14 or 15, you will take home the first Mini Challenge trophy!

Beyond this, why not plan a team walk, or create a Team Mini League using the Leaderboard section of the Global Challenge event website for some extra competition and motivation? Also, don’t forget to keep entering your steps regularly to see your team move up the Leaderboard. When you work together, there is no limit to what you can achieve!
