Humber’s Sexual Violence Committee Faculty/Staff Awareness Working Group has created a resource to support employees.

This resource has information about what to do if sexual violence is reported to a Humber employee. It also lists supports, both on campus and off, that can help in instances of sexual violence.

We encourage you to review this document and keep it in an easily accessible place.

Please also refer to the Humber’s Sexual Violence Policy and Procedures for more information.

Please contact humanrights@humber.ca if you require any additional information.

We thank you for your continued commitment to addressing and ending sexual violence.

Humber DSX logo

The Digital Student Experience (DSX) Program emerged from the 2023-2026 Digital Campus and Academic Plans and focuses on enhancing the digital student experience.

The DSX program seeks to radically transform the student experience, tailoring and personalizing interactions with our community in ways that allow everyone to feel understood, supported and valued.

Digital Experience Platform (DXP)

The Digital Experience Platform (DXP) offers Humber an integrated suite of tools and apps to create meaningful relationships with our prospects, students and alumni as they become engaged with Humber on our websites and digital media.

Within this platform is a Content Management System and Digital Asset Management System. The Content Management System will host all of Humber’s websites on a modern, centrally managed platform.

The Digital Asset Management System will be a content hub that holds brand assets, photography, video and graphic elements for use in communication material.

The Digital Experience Platform will provide a personalized and continuous browsing experience across all Humber sites, including:

  • Adjusting content based on data analytics to improve the experience for prospective students
  • Creating standardized, modular design components to support the easy and quick creation/update of content
  • Maintaining brand presence and a consistent look and feel across all Humber’s websites
  • A new centralized way to easily search, share and download digital assets

The DXP is part of our Digital Campus Plan, along with other projects like Digital Identity (DI), and Enrolment and Admissions Rethinking (E&AR).

Learn more about the DXP at the DSX Program Showcase on March 4, 2024.

Apple update screen on iPhone device

Apple released the version of iOS 17.3 which includes a new "Stolen Device Protection" feature.

How does it work?

Stolen Device Protection is a new feature in iOS 17.3 that prevents unauthorized access to your device if it is lost or stolen. When you turn on Stolen Device Protection, your device will automatically lock itself with your FaceID and Passcode if it detects that it has been removed from your possession. You can also remotely lock your device using the Find My Phone app on another Apple device or iCloud.com. To unlock your device, you will need to verify your identity with FaceID or enter your Passcode and Recovery Key. You can reset your Recovery Key using your Apple ID and trusted phone number if you don't have your Recovery Key. Stolen Device Protection helps keep your data and Apple Pay information secure, even if your device falls into the wrong hands.

How to use Stolen Device Protection

Turning on Stolen Device Protection in four steps:

  1. Download and install iOS 17.3
  2. Open the Settings app
  3. Open FaceID & Passcode menu
  4. Toggle on Stolen Device Protection

Pink hearts overlaid with a thank you message.

As we celebrate the importance of love today, we would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all faculty and staff who have supported Humber Gives this academic year. Thanks to you and other members from our supportive community, we were able to give out over 1,500 scholarships and bursaries to support Humber students along their educational journey.

We would also like to thank everyone who supported Orange Shirt Day this past September, either by taking part in the beautiful Walk for Reconciliation -- which offered a time for reflection and learning about the Residential School system -- or by donating to support emergency funds for Indigenous students at Humber.

Lastly, we are happy to share that Humber was recently able to award bursaries to extended society care students currently in foster care thanks, in big part, to the support we received from many generous faculty and staff as part of our Giving Tuesday campaign this past November.

As you can see, this truly is a supportive community. Thank you once again for continuing to spread love to Humber students.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Two joined hearts with horizontal text, "Celebrating Humber Love", and a horizontal Humber Alumni logo.

Just like Valentine's Day is celebrated every February 14, Humber Love has become an annual tradition, telling the stories of graduates who met in Humber's hallways and classrooms.

This year, we tell the story of General Arts & Science alumni Martin Iyahen and Ndidi Arimah, who first locked eyes in class and built a loving relationship.

Leveraging Humber tech and the talent of Humber students, virtual and mixed reality helped take our happy couple on a unique trip down memory lane. They relived unforgettable moments like their first date and memorable trips and shared details of their future together.

Enjoy this 2024 Humber Love video

A special thank you to our student contributors:

Jacob Bruce, Game Programming
Sonalika Bansiwal, 3D Animation
Yatee Mehul , Interactive Media Management – Creative Technologies

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your special someone.

A memory aid may be recommended as an accommodation for tests/exams when a learner has provided information confirming that their disability impacts information retrieval. It is a tool developed by the learner to trigger recall of information. Memory aids are to be reviewed and approved by faculty prior to use on a test or exam.

The memory aid gives these learners an equitable opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of course material by helping prompt their memory, not by providing the answer.

This accommodation is not intended to reduce academic requirements or alter the standards by which academic performance is assessed. A properly created memory aid will not be useful to the learner unless they know and understand how to use the information it refers to. If the learner doesn’t understand the course material, a memory aid will not help.

Disabilities that may affect memory include (but are not limited to):

  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Mental Health Conditions
  • Specific learning disability
  • ADD/ADHD

Additional information about the memory aid process can be found on our website

Visit our ALS Information for Faculty website to learn more about accommodations.

Please email us at accessible-learning@humber.ca with suggestions for key accessibility-related topics that you would like us to address through the Communiqué.

Journal of Innovation in Polytechnic Education (JIPE) is pleased to announce the publication of Building An Interprofessional Practice Approach In a Polytechnic Institution Beginning With Health-Care Education and Embracing The Concept As An Operational Leadership Imperative by Dr. Cory Ross.

Abstract

Polytechnic educational institutions have led the way in providing innovative and dynamic programming to students that meet industry needs. They serve as leaders of collaboration and agents of change not only in their respective programs but also in the way they conduct themselves as responsible businesses. This essay chronicles a series of decisions and events that have allowed one polytechnic higher education institution to adapt to changing times and embrace a new model of budget planning for the future. The ability for the polytechnic to change and move forward is truly remarkable. George Brown College has been able to incorporate crucial new ways of designing and creating budgets that assist the college workforce to feel connected and determined to effect its mission.
