Introduction to Mindfulness - CTC178

Mindfulness is the practice of being in the present moment and it has been shown to decrease anxiety, reduce emotional reactivity, lower blood pressure and improve sleep. This course teaches what mindfulness is and how to apply it in everyday business life.

Compassion Fatigue - CTC177

Compassion Fatigue is when you are physically and emotionally exhausted and your ability to empathize or feel compassion is reduced affecting your professional and personal life. This course helps you recognize the signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue and gives you tips and techniques to maintain wellness and strategies for recovery.

The next course: Wednesday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Wednesday, July 28 at 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Aimed at kids ages 6 to 11, Virtual Summer Nature Camp with the Humber Arboretum offers mornings full of fun and engaging online programming promoting curiosity and nature connection. Through games, challenges, and activities campers will learn about the natural world and discover new ways to explore outdoors.

Every week of camp will include get-to-know-you and icebreaker games, nature journaling activities, nature mysteries to solve, fun games and activities that help develop observation skills and a deeper awareness of nature, and time for campers to share their own nature discoveries. Other activities will explore the weekly theme:

Healthy Planet, Healthy Lives

Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30, 2021 

All living things are connected - so how can you make a positive impact on yourself, your community, and the planet? From experiencing life as a bumblebee to finding ways to turn trash into treasures, this week is all about sustainability and stewardship of the natural world.

  • Times: Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. 
  • Location: For summer 2021, Nature Camp is entirely online.
  • Cost: $110 per family/device for the week. Multiple siblings may participate through the same screen.

Rivers and Ravines

Water shapes our world - literally! One of the most amazing features of the Greater Toronto Area is its ravine system, and one of the greatest features of the Arboretum is the Humber River. Join us to explore both as we learn about the ecology and the history of these freshwater systems.

Growing Up Gardeners

From discovering how worm poop makes for healthy soil to sprouting kitchen scraps, we'll explore what plants need to thrive. You'll also learn about some of the wild edible plants that make up nature's garden, and test your knowledge of which seeds turn into which plants.

Innovation Buffet Workshop: Introduction to Design Thinking

Introduction to Design Thinking

Join us for the Introduction to Design Thinking workshop. This is where we will have some fun learning the essentials of design thinking techniques and understanding the design thinking process. This workshop is being held on July 8 and July 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Note: These are two separate dates for the workshop, you have an option to choose either one of the dates.

Learning Outcomes Overview

  1. Learn essential design thinking techniques, mindsets, and behaviors.
  2. Understand the Design Thinking Process.
  3. Understand how to grow ideas into powerful solutions.

Facilitator Bio

Raeshelle Morris holds a Masters in Leadership from the University of Guelph, a double major honors Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Organizational Studies from the University of Western Ontario, and she is also a certified project manager (PMP). She is trained in Creative Problem Solving, Values-Based Innovation through Values-Perspectives, Design Thinking, Change Management, and Human-Centred Design. She has also obtained her Green Belt in Innovation Strategy Management through Innovation 360.
