All Humber faculty (full and part-time), staff, and students are invited to the ACER Community of Interest.

The Community of Interest (CI) offers an informal, virtual platform for the Humber community to connect over their shared interest in topics related to aging. Highlights from ACER’s previous CI Meetings can be read on our website.

This virtual 'brown bag' lunch conversation revolves around subjects that matter to participants, such as articles they would like to discuss, upcoming events, potential research projects, and the sharing of research results. The community meets on the third Thursday of the month from 12 to 1 p.m.

The Broadband-Broadcast B2C Lab is excited to host a visiting expert from India to present, “D2M (Direct-2-Mobile): A Superior Solution for 5G Broadcast.” We’re inviting interested Humber faculty and staff to join this session.

Date: Tuesday, June 17
Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Location: Barrett CTI

As seating is limited, kindly RSVP by email to manivannan.kannan@humber.ca by 12 p.m. on Monday, June 16. Final details will be sent directly to those who RSVP.

About the Presentation

As more people use smartphones and tablets to watch videos and consume content, our mobile networks are becoming overloaded. This can lead to slower speeds and poor user experience. One solution is Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) broadcasting, which sends live or popular content to many users at once, just like TV, rather than overloading the network with individual streams.

In countries like India, where both population density and limited spectrum create challenges, D2M can help improve how content is delivered in both cities and rural areas. This talk will explore a D2M solution built using ATSC 3.0, a new broadcasting standard designed for mobile and pedestrian use. The speaker will also share findings from a recent proof-of-concept trial in Bangalore, India.

About the Speaker

Adrish Banerjee received the B.Tech. (Hons.) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, IN, USA. He is currently the Next Generation Broadcasting Chair Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. His research interests include physical-layer aspects of communications, particularly error control coding, molecular communications, broadcasting, and machine learning applications in communications.

This presentation is part of our ongoing work at the Broadcast-Broadband Convergence B²C Lab, where we explore advanced broadcast and ATSC technologies.
